Maybe you are worried that you are not making enough milk. Maybe you are returning to work, and it would like to increase your milk production. Or maybe you are going on vacation, and need extra milk. Whatever the reason you want to increase your milk production. Lactation cookies are a fun and yummy way to do so. Lactation cookies have a few ingredients that are known galactagogues. Galactagougues increase a woman's milk supply. These ingredients are Brewer's Yeast (can usually be found at a health food store), Flax Seed, and Oats. Here are two step-by-step recipes for lactation cookies. One is a more traditional recipe, the other is a healthier alternative (personally my favorite). NOTE: Lactation cookies are for everyone, so feel free to share. They will not make a non-lactating person lactate, so the entire family can enjoy these delicious cookies. 

Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Lactation Cookies


1. Gather up all the ingredients. You will need 1 cup butter, 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 brown sugar, 4 TBS's water, 2 TBS's flax seed meal, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, 3 cups oats, 1 cup chocolate chips, and 4 TBS's brewers yeast. 

2. Preheat oven to 350.

3. Mix the flaxseed meal and water and let sit for about 5 minutes. 

4. Beat butter and sugars together. 

5. Add eggs and mix well.

6. Add the flaxseed mill and vanilla, beat together.

7. Add all the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients.

8. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips.

9. Using a tablespoon, scoop onto cookies sheet.

10. Bake for about 12 minutes.  

Healthier Oatmeal, Chocolate Chip, and Raisin Lactation Cookies

1. Gather up all the ingredients. You will need a 1/2 cup of butter, 1 cup of applesauce, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup white sugar, 4 TBS's of water, 2 TBS's flax seed meal, 2 eggs, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 cups whole wheat flour, 2 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, 3 cups of oats, 1 cup chocolate chips, 1 cups raisins, and 4 TBS's brewers yeast.

2. Preheat oven to 350.

3. Mix the flaxseed meal and water and let sit for about 5 minutes.

6. Add the flaxseed mill and vanilla, beat together.

8. Stir in the oats, chocolate chips, and raisins.

10. Bake for about 12-15 minutes.
