How to reduce the cost of buying a scaffold tower

For most DIY users a scaffold tower is something that they would use only once in awhile, and the likelihood is that when they do need to use it, they're going to need it for a couple of weeks at least. This puts the average DIY user in to a difficult position because the cost to hire the scaffold tower for a week is almost similar to that of what it would cost to buy. It seems crazy that you need to spend all this money just to hire the tower for a couple weeks when you could just buy one. Of course the problem is once you have bought a tower where are you going to keep it? Although scaffold towers on relatively compact, they will still take up a reasonable amount of space in the average size shed.

There are three possible solutions to this problem and both will save you money but still allow you to have scaffold tower:

Buy a Second Hand Tower

The first solution is to look for a second-hand aluminum scaffold tower, you do need to be very careful though when purchasing a tower second-hand that is made from aluminum. Aluminum tends to crack before it bends and this makes it very difficult to spot a dangerous piece of scaffolding. If you are going down this route and you definitely need to inspect the tower prior to purchasing it. Buying tower second-hand will probably save you about 30% of the cost of buying a new one so it is a saving not to be sniffed at.

Share the Cost

The second solution involves other people, if there are a bunch of you who regularly carry out DIY and other maintenance tasks around the home or in the garden then you could always club together and purchase a brand-new scaffold tower. This will actually reduce the cost significantly because obviously there are more of you to share the cost. The beauty of this method is this you're not the one that will have to store the tower all the time and you can take it in turns.

Buy a New Tower & Sell it On

The third option involves you buying a brand-new tower. You will have to make sure that you look at it very well and once you're done with it you can sell it on in an as new condition. This is perhaps the easiest solution as it doesn't involve other people, and you know that you're getting a brand-new tower that is safe to use whilst still saving some money.
