How to stream Netflix video through your Nintendo Wii

If you have a Nintendo Wii and a Netflix subscription you can most likely stream video straight from Netflix to your TV. Netflix is fast enough when you send the DVD disks back and forth, but with their streaming video you can watch whatever is available almost anytime.

Things You Will Need

You'll need a Nintendo Wii and a Netflix subscription that allows at least one disk out a month (about $9/month).

Step 1

Log into your Netflix account and go to the 'Watch Instantly' tab. Under the 'Watch Instantly' tab click on 'Instantly to your TV'.

Step 2

Scroll down the page until you find the 'Netflix Ready Devices' and click on the Nintendo Wii. Your browser will take you the page that you can request the 'Instant Streaming Disc for Wii'.

Step 3

Now you wait the couple days it will take to get the disc. This would be a good time to make sure the Nintendo Wii is connected to the Internet. This can be done by either ethernet wiring our WiFi.

Step 4

Once you receive the disc you will first need to activate the device. Do this by putting the disc in the Nintendo Wii and starting the program. The program will display an activation code that you'll need to enter into your Netflix account on your computer.

Step 5

Log into your Netflix account and go to http://www.netflix.com/wii. It will only take a couple minutes to active the device.

Step 6

You will only be able to select from movies and shows already in your Instant play queue.

I've now watched several things streaming through my Nintendo Wii which is connected wirelessly to the Internet. I'm on DSL so the WiFi is not a limiting factor, if you are on cable modem or FIOS you may benefit from a physical connection.
