How to tell if You Need a New Corner Bookcase

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Before I get into this let me first tell you a little bit about the inspiration for this article.

My wife and I have been out house hunting for the past few weeks. We're going to be buying our first home and we want to make sure it is a great place to stay. We've been looking at tons of houses and everyone is very nice to us and they all want us to buy their property but I have to say that some of their furniture really makes their house look awful.

When you're selling your home you want to make sure that your furniture is in order and everything is neat and tidy or else the person scoping out the property isn't going to be enticed. If you can't fix the place up enough to show it off, how are we supposed to know you aren't leaving a bunch of other things undone when you leave?

Anyway, I noticed in more than a few houses that people are using corner bookcases to present a lot of their stuff. A corner bookcase is great when you have a nice book collection of some family portraits and fun vacation photos but when you don't organize it properly or let it start to look decayed and worn down it can detract from the feel of the house.

Here is how you can tell if you need a new corner bookcase for your home:

Things You Will Need

Well, obviously you're going to need a corner bookcase for this one but you're also going to need an unbiased eye. You should bring in a friend of a friend (an almost stranger if you will) to take a look at the room your corner bookcase is sitting in and ask them what they think about the way the room is set up.

If the first thing they pick up on is the messy bookcase in the corner, you probably need a new corner bookcase.

Now you're going to need to be objective on your own. Take a look at your corner bookcase and be honest with yourself when you answer these questions:

Are the shelves over flowing?
Is the wood scratched or broken in different places?
Is the finish or stain on the wood fading and looking dusty?
Have any of the shelves fallen off and been replaced with cardboard?
Are you reading an article about how to tell if you need a new corner bookcase?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions then you're going to need a new corner bookcase. Trust me, get a new one and either divide the stuff you have on your old one so that it looks cleaner and more spread out or just replace the old one entirely.

Furniture doesn't have to be a burden. It can be a lot of fun when you get down to it. Play with the configuration of your room and make sure that it looks purposefully structured. If you have stuff all over the place and your bookcases are a mess no one is going to want to visit you and no one is going to want to buy your home. Trust me.
