Why be sad when you can be happy?

Happiness is one of the best emotions that humans can experience in their life.

Being happy is a choice. Learn 8 simple ways to start being happier in your life right now:

1. Smile.

Upon waking up, instantly give yourself a big smile in the mirror, realise that it's a new day filled with new opportunities and challenges to grow as a person. It's a natural human instinct to seek growth, so make use of everyday as a golden opportunity to advance further in life.

2. Positivity.

Start being more positive in every situation, even if its a bad experience that you've encountered. There's a lesson to be learnt in every situation, a good method is to reframe the situation. Reframing is a technique to change the way you look at something.

An example is, when you have the feeling of fear, most people will generally try their best to avoid the fearful situation. Instead of seeing it as a fearful situation, you view the situation as an exciting opportunity to build your courage, to step out of your comfort zone.

3. Enjoy.

Enjoy doing what you do. This is a motivational technique for yourself to wake up and feel excited to love what you do every single morning. Set your alarm early and wake up earlier, and start doing things you enjoy, such as exercising, singing, playing instruments, dancing, etc. Starting your morning right is the key to having a great day ahead.

4. Gratitude. 

Start to be more grateful about things. A good thing to be grateful is the fact that you're still alive and kicking. Or you can start by counting your blessings, be appreciative of the little things in life: the fact that you're not sick, you're able to walk and talk, you have a nice bed to sleep in, you have shelter above you, you have clothes to wear. The list is endless.

5. Have a Good Breakfast.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating a healthy breakfast will help to control your blood sugar levels, which in turn results in an important role to boost your mood and performance later in the day.

6. Exercise.

Exercising produces endorphins in your body. Endorphins are also known as the happy hormones, it's what produces the sensation called 'runners high', where people are so addicted to the GOOD feelings after a run. Other benefits include helping to keep you in shape, thus looking and feeling better about yourself.

7. Music.

Listen to positive or happy music as soon as you wake up. An upbeat song will raise your energy levels early in the morning and a happy song will raise your mood early in the morning.

8. Love.

Think about someone or something you absolutely love, be it your spouse, partner, parents, or pets. If your mind contains only depressing memories, then naturally you will feel depressed, but if you focus on the things or people you love, it will give you a boost as you start the day feeling the positive emotions surging through your body.

Remember, being happy is a CHOICE you can make EVERY SINGLE DAY. Why wake up feeling sad/angry/grumpy/depressed when you can feel HAPPY/GREAT/AWESOME/FANTASTIC instead?
