Hunting with Spears
Have you ever considered hunting with spears? Those words might make you think of ancient times or of undeveloped areas on far away continents, but what about here, in America? If you are an avid hunter and enjoy the challenge to your personal skills, spear hunting is the ultimate way to hone your hunting abilities and be better connected to the entire hunting experience. Throughout history, man has built better and better weaponry, allowing limitless advantages in hunting.
Bow and arrows were a huge leap forward, but no advancement was as huge as the invention of gun powder. The gun in its various forms and calibers has allowed man to consider all other living creatures his prey, up to the largest of land animals, the elephant. When you are on the hunt, and you use technology such as infrared goggles and guns, you have such an advantage over your prey that to some, it takes away from the overall experience.
If taking down an animal is as easy as pointing and pulling a trigger, then the hunt is barely any different than a video game. Point, click, done. A hunter who wants to be one with the experience, who loves adventure, and craves a true challenge to his manly, feral instincts, should seriously consider using a spear as his weapon of choice. Using spears to primarily hunt feral pigs or boars is increasing in popularity. Hunters who seek to return the challenge to their natural instincts as hunters are embracing the idea as it becomes more accepted in the hunting community.
These spears are not ancient style devices carved from stone. A modern spear for hunting is made from select hard woods, has a grippy, comfortable hand grip and a dangerously sharp carbon steel spear head. The properly weighted, balanced spear combined with blades made of hard, sharp metal increases the odds of a proper hit effectively bringing the target down; because, of course, killing the animal humanely is still of high importance, even in spear hunting. Bring yourself a step closer to the hunt and challenge yourself by hunting with spears.
