I am what I am and I like it! Can you say that? Do you like yourself?
Are you happy with yourself? Are you proud of yourself? And if not, why don't you like who you are? And, most important of all, you don't like who you are because of you or because of others? Are you looking at yourself through your eyes or through the eyes of someone else?
Interesting questions right?
Sometimes we don't like ourselves because we know we have some flaws, things about ourselves we don't like and we would like to change. That's perfectly normal, and common, and you shouldn't worry too much about that, because you can always improve who you are and change those features of yourself which pull you down instead of pushing you up. It's just a matter of willpower and motivation.
But sometimes we don't like ourselves because we listen to others. And see ourselves through the eyes of others.
I've always thought that the Wiccan rule that "If it harms none do what you will" is the correct way to see yourself and your life. Much similar to the Golden Rule of "Treat others as you would like others to treat you". So, if you don't damage others why don't you like yourself? What's wrong with you? Why aren't you proud of you? Why you are not happy with you?
You are who you are and have the right to be who you are, and to be happy with it.
How boring would be the world if we human beings were all equal? Everyone thinking the same things, dressing in the same way, etc., etc. It's a bit scaring right?
The beauty of life is made up by variety, think about how beautiful are trees in Autumn with all those different colors. It's the same for human beings. And if you are different from others and provided you are not harming someone, being as you are and living as you like you are adding beauty to the world. Being who you are makes you special and unique.
Now I'll tell you a little secret: Those who tell you how to live your life and "how you are" are usually those who have less rights and reasons to do it. You probably know the story about seeing the straw in others' eyes and not seeing the beam in ours, and this is pretty common, as we are all human beings.
The interesting thing is that those who are further than you on the road of improvement are those who would never judge you, or tell you what to do. Because they know that it would be the wrong thing to do and that you, like me and everyone else, need to learn the lesson by yourself. They would show you the way by example and not by telling you what's "wrong" with you. They would also provide advices but not judgments.
So, let me ask you again this question: you are not happy with yourself because you see yourself through the eyes of others? And who cares about the judgement of others? If you're adding beauty and variety to the world by being different from others and knowing that those who judge you are those with less rights to do it can you finally like who you are?
Be proud of yourself because there is no one else in the world like you, be kind with others but live your life as you like it.
