I Need a Free Doctor's Excuse from Work

Getting a Note for Job Absence

I need a free doctor’s excuse from work.  Well, you have some options that are both ethical and legal to consider when you need a note for an absence.  While you can find fake hospital documents, passing them off as legitimate is not only unethical, but can be illegal.  For this reason, I’ll go over some real options you have to get your sick related absence from work excused, so you don’t have to face any sort of penalty from your employer.  Here’s the scoop on getting one for free.

Free Clinics

Many counties and cities have public health clinics where services are offered at no charge.  In some cases, low income restrictions could apply, but this will vary by location.  Make a call to the public health providers in your area and find out if they have any openings to see you.  This will be a great way to excuse your absence from work with a Doctor’s note.  You may end up seeing an RN, LPN, or a Dr., but no matter what medical professional you see, you should be able to get the note you are looking for in a fully legal and legitimate way, rather than relying on fake medical forms that could be illegal to get off the hook with your boss.

Calling a Local Dr.

You could get a free doctor’s note to excuse a work absence by calling your family physician and telling them about your symptoms.  Some are willing to do this, but it’s going to depend on your clinic or hospital’s policies.  Many will be sympathetic to your request, since missing a day on the job is expensive enough without a visit, especially if you don’t have insurance or have very poor coverage.  It’s much better than fake hospital forms, since it’s fully legal and ethical.

Playing Hooky

I’m guilty of this myself.  I take the occasional “mental health day” off.  I am hard-pressed to find ways to justify it, but I do it anyhow.  I’ve always attempted to justify it in my mind because I go to work sick plenty of times, so taking a day off work when I’m not is okay.  It’s not necessarily a good excuse, but it’s all I have.  I admit, over the last 20 years, I’ve gotten much more creative when it comes to playing hooky, in order to avoid needing a note.  Here are some things you may want to try if you’re just playing hooky.

Family Emergency:  Maybe a bit tactless, but you won’t end up looking for fake doctor’s notes and excuses.  Most employers are sympathetic to employee emergencies, but you have to be sure you don’t go overboard.  It’s one you can put in your back pocket and use sometime when you don’t want to go to the clinic.  You need to make sure you don’t go over the top with this one and just use it very rarely, or you’ll quickly be unable to take off time for a real family emergency.

Sick Child:  My employer won’t require a note if my child is sick.  I know this because I’ve stayed home with sick kids in the past…when they were actually sick.  I am guilty of using this one in the past as well.  It works pretty well.  It’s one you don’t want to use very often, since kids will get sick from time to child.  Caring for a sick child is a reasonable excuse to take off work and one that generally won’t require you to go and get a doctor’s note for your absence.

Caring for Spouse:  Your employer cannot ask for medical documentation of any illness of your spouse or another, assuming they don’t work there.  Again, it may lack tact, but it could help you avoid getting fired or terminated from your job if you cannot get a note for your absence from work.  Don’t use this one free and wildly, since it’s something you can only go the well with on rare occasion.  Like any other fake reason to play hooky, there is some risk involved.

About Fake Documents

Free fake doctor’s excuses are out there.  I mentioned ethics earlier. While I do occasionally take a phony sick day, like many others, I don’t cross this line.  Downloading fake hospital documents is dangerous.  Here are just a few of the problems you may face.

Legal Trouble:  This is the rough equivalent to faking a prescription.  This is not okay.  You could find yourself in hot water for doing this…or in jail.  Be sure you don’t fall prey to how quick and easy it is to download free fake hospital documents or you could end up losing more than your job.

You’re Terminated:  Few employers would tolerate using a fake note.  You can reasonably assume that if you get caught, you’ll get fired from your job.  This would most definitely ruin your long weekend.  This risk is too much to take for most people, since we all rely heavily on our jobs.  To make matters worse, most states will deny unemployment benefits if fired for just cause.  This would certainly qualify as just cause.  Don’t take this type of risk over a free doctor’s excuse from work that’s a fake.

Poor Reputation:  If you get caught, word spreads quickly.  Your colleagues may not judge you, but they will most likely talk to others outside of the workplace.  This can quickly spread to other potential employers, making it very hard to land a new job.  In the current state of the economy, it’s easy to see how hard it would be to find a job with such a major black mark on your employment record.  This is just one of the many reasons to avoid the phonies and use the above mentioned, legitimate methods.  It just makes good sense.

Final Thoughts

While it’s tempting to download and print fake hospital documents or those from a clinic, it’s pretty clear that you must avoid them.  If you’re saying, I need a free doctor’s excuse from work, you have some legit options.

I would think that people using fake doctor's excuses likely have more problems than just taking a day off from work. They probably take off frequently, which in itself is grounds for termination. I, like you, have taken an occasional mental day off. You say it is hard to justify, but the reality is that our mental condition should be just as important as our physical one. I've been diagnosed with some legitimate depression, so when I called out without actually having symptoms of a physiological disease; I always felt bad, but needed the time away otherwise I felt like I would end up going overboard. Some jobs are also rather stressful and hard to bear every single day, over long hours no less. I was a cashier at Wal-Mart, which of course doesn't sound like a bad job, but it can be very difficult when you are introverted and depressed. Fortunately, my occasional day off (I think I took like 5 in 2 years, which isn't bad considering I was also in school full time while working essentially full time there) did not count against me as my managers generally liked me. When I was there, I worked very hard. The occasional day off then is justified to me and a nice escape.
