Lung Cancer Life Expectancy Without Treatment

The average lifespan for someone who is diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer and does not get treatment is 3 to 12 months.  Considering the fact that this disease stays dormant for decades before it is finally diagnosed, you are really getting diagnosed at the disease's "end stage" so life expectancy even with treatment is short and without treatment is even shorter.  It is your to your benefit to seek treatment for your mesothelioma cancer and get the help you need for yourself.  Your family members should also be checked or pre-screened just to make sure they were not the victims of second-hand exposure.  If you cannot afford to get the proper treatment, you can speak with a mesothelioma attorney because there is billions of dollars in funds that is put away by companies who may have unknowingly risk employee heath through asbestos exposure to help with the victims who are now showing symptoms and have been diagnosed.  Check with a mesothelioma lawyer to see what your options are.

There is a popular saying ‘Health is Wealth’ and yes, it is true. Staying healthy throughout the life time will be everyone’s dream. Now-a-days, even people with healthy lifestyle are affected by chronic diseases. Environmental pollution is one of the major reasons for ill health. People in United States are affected by Lung Cancer and it is second most widespread cancer in the country. Approximately 200,000 Americans are diagnosed with lung cancer every year. Although lung cancer is mostly linked with smoking, around 20 to 30 percent of all cases  is due to asbestos exposure or due to a combination of smoking, asbestos exposure and other reasons. The early diagnosis of lung cancer helps in treating it properly and preventing it from spreading. However, as stated above, in the case of mesothelioma lung cancer, since it is dormant for decades, when it is finally diagnosed growth of tumors makes it very difficult to treat in many cases.  Tom Harper, who is a sea farmer is still alive today as of 2012 because he says he used natural plankton from his work as a sea farmer to treat his mesothelioma cancer.  You can always talk to your doctor about natural treatment options if you do not want to use conventional treatment. Things You Should Know About Mesothelioma Cancer

Mesothelioma is a cancer that develops in the lining of lungs, abdomen or heart. For almost four hundred years, asbestos was one of the common building materials especially in construction and shipping industries. Few years back researchers found that asbestos is connected with serious respiratory problems. Millions of workers had been exposed to asbestos fibers. The microscopic asbestos materials reach lungs as the human body is unable to destroy this foreign object. This asbestos exposure gets deposited in the lungs and cause biological changes. The stage is set for Mesothelioma that results in the formation of cancerous tumor. The primary cause of Mesothelioma is exposure to asbestos which disrupts the natural cellular process. The cells begin to multiply faster abnormally. This asbestos exposure release HMGB1 (high-mobility group box 1 protein) that cause chronic irritation in the respiratory path resulting in cancerous tumor.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma

The symptoms of Mesothelioma arise 15 to 50 years after the exposure of asbestos as this cancer takes more time to develop. Few of the early symptoms of Mesothelioma are fatigue, coughing, shortness of breath and reduced respiratory function. The symptoms of Mesothelioma can be mistaken for other types of serious illnesses because the symptoms are so similar.  Pleural Mesothelioma is the result of the cancer developing in the lungs. The common symptoms of Pleural Mesothelioma are chest pain, shortness of breath, harsh breathing sound, barely audible, wheezing, dry cough, weight loss, reduced chest expansion and pleural effusions.  If you or any of your family members have previous work history related to asbestos exposure, make sure to meet the doctor to find existence of any asbestos-related disease. It is highly recommended not to wait for the symptoms to arise as the earlier you find easy to remedy. Read more about mesothelioma asbestos cancer symptoms:

Different Stages of Mesothelioma:

There are different staging system exists for Mesothelioma. Some of them are Butchart Staging System, TNM Staging System, [Stages of Tumor, Stages of Nodes, and Metastasis] Brigham System and Mesothelioma Final Stages. Majority of the Doctors follow TNM Staging System to identify treatment options for the patients. TNM System is developed by International Mesothelioma Interest Group (IMIG). TNM abbreviation stands for three different parts of diagnosis. They are:

T: Stands for size and location of the tumor.

N: indicates if lymph nodes are affected or not

M: Thisidentifies if tumor has metastasized into other parts of the body.

Treatments for Mesothelioma

As we know, Mesothelioma increases cancerous cell growth abundantly resulting in tumors in different parts of the body. The primary treatment goal is to kill cancerous cells and prevent the tumor from spreading.  Doctors initially diagnose the stage and the type of lung cancer to begin with the appropriate treatment. The two main types of lung cancer are Small Cell Lung Cancer and Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. Lung cancers spread to the lymph nodes and to the other organs and the treatment options are very limited at this stage.

Lung cancer is staged as Stage I, Stage II, Stage III and Stage IV based on the severity and treatment options. At Stage I, many treatment options are available. Stage II – Still patients have hope as curative surgery option is available. Stage III – Curative surgery is uncommon. Stage IV- Curative surgery is even less common as evidence of spreading tumor in lymph nodes and other organs exist.

Depending upon the severity your doctor may suggest the following. In the initial stage, they try to treat the cancer with drugs and Chemotherapy.  When there is a risk of surgery exists with the patients, doctors try radiation therapy. Responses by cancerous cells to radiation therapy are high however re-occurrence is common. If the patient is eligible for surgery, doctors try biopsy and surgical removal of the affected area.

With the recent research, scientists have found Gene Therapy as one of the treatment options for Mesothelioma. In Gene Therapy, genetic materials are introduced to prevent or fight against the cancerous cells. Some of the treatment method under Gene therapy are in testing phase and may become commonplace when proved to be safe.

Treatment Cost:

Chemotherapy costs vary depending upon how many times you need it. An average costs for eight weeks period will come up to $30,000. At the initial stage, chemotherapy treatment costs up to $7,000. As surgery for Mesothelioma cancer is rare, you need to spend ten thousands of dollars.  The average surgery costs would be $40,000.  For Radiation therapy, the treatment costs for a month would come up to $2000. Your medical insurance covers your radiation therapy costs so please speak to your insurance provider and check for the same. You can also consult an attorney to find if any legal compensation is available. As soon as you are diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer, this should actually be one of your first acts.

Life Expectancy with Mesothelioma if I decide not to get treatment:

The saddest fact is Mesothelioma survivors are relatively low simply because the disease lays dormant for so long. There are some individuals who have lived for more years after Mesothelioma is diagnosed. Surprisingly, Doctors could not identify the reasons for their survivals. Their life is extended because of their positive thought and love from their family. Life Expectancy is based on different criteria such as the stage of the Mesothelioma, location of tumor, life style, age, gender etc. Some unique individuals live and continue to live for more than 15 years after this disease has been diagnosed because they follow proper Mesothelioma treatments along with alternative treatments such as message therapy, meditation to build up their immune system. However, the average life expectancy once Mesothelioma is diagnosed is 9 to 18 months with some form of treatment.

A Note about Silver and Cancer. The National Institute of Health (PubMed) has published documents about the effectiveness of silver in nano particles being used to treat affected cancer cells.  There has been a lot of bad press about silver, but in truth the organized medical institutions still use it and used it widely and effectively before the invention of antibiotics.  Before resigning yourself to death, speak to your doctor about trying all options, including so called "alternative." Consult a Natropath if you need to.  There are many writings about the use of silver helping to restore affected cancer cells to normal.  Here is a good blog to read about the use of silver an cancer. Do your own study on pharmaceutical made colloidal silver and how it can help you  fight your disease.  Always speak to your doctor about trying any new treatment including dietary supplements such as silver. Also, here's a good site that discusses the medical research of silver to treat serious diseases.  I am not affiliated with the Invive or Silver Protein Mild websites nor the above blog, but they have some good information that could be useful to someone.  Good Luck and just remember that the bible tells us, that for every illness, there is a treatment or cure.
