Discover What Foods To Avoid When Breastfeeding Your Baby

They're more common than you think!

Avoiding certain foods while breastfeeding can make a big difference in both your baby's health and your physical recovery time.  Doctors recommend following this list of foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby to ensure happiness and good health for both mom and baby.  These top foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby are dangerous when consumed in repeated doses, as they're found in most foods.  To avoid these foods while breastfeeding baby, read the ingredient labels on foods currently in your pantry and throw them out, and pay attention when grocery shopping.  These are definitely foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby!

Healthy Breastfeeding Baby

A simple look into your fridge will reveal a majority of food products contain at least one of these four foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby, and their impact on your health can be catastrophic.  In small doses, they are practically harmless.  But because these foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby are so pervasive in the typical American diet, it is best to purge your fridge and pantry of them, and permanently.

#4: Enriched Flours and all flours that are not 100 percent whole grain or 100 percent whole wheat.  Commonly concealed substitutes for overly processed, non-nutritional wheat products include enriched white flour, semolina, and durum wheat, to name a few.  Get these out of your kitchen entirely while breastfeeding your baby.

#3:  Trans Fat has made its way across the headlines recently, and with good reason.  Trans fats are known to increase the risk of coronary heart disease.  They also lower good HDL cholesterol and raise the bad LDL cholesterol.  Look for ingredients such as partially hydrogenated fats, vegetable blends with anything 'hydrogenated,' and most margarine and cooking blends.  If absolutely necessary, use cholesterol-fighters such as Promise and Benecol.  Most of us don't need to consume any additional fats, and these you should definitely avoid while breastfeeding baby.

#2:  Saturated Fats include fats from most four-legged animals (like cow and goat, plus more), milk fat, butter or lard, and tropical oils like palm and coconut.  Baby gets plenty of fat from your breast milk naturally, so avoid this while breastfeeding baby.

Homemade Honey

#1: Simple Sugars and Syrups.

The most common forms include brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, glucose, honey, invert sugar, lactose, malt syrup, maltose, molasses, evaporated cane sugar, raw sugar and sucrose.  For cooking, keep the following on hand: table sugar, honey (it never goes bad!), and maple syrup.  Of all the offenders, these sugars add the most calories and top our list of foods to avoid while breastfeeding baby.

In fact, these are foods all of us should avoid anyways, so for you breastfeeding moms out there: Don't be afraid to take control in the kitchen and kick these nasty foods out for good!  Your healthy baby will thank you for it.
