Come visit Coral Gables, FL

Beautiful sites and great dinning await

Nicknamed “The City Beautiful”, the City of Coral Gables is a gem within Miami-Dade County in south-east Florida.  It is a historical land mark where you can still feel like you are in a classic vintage town while still in the middle of the booming Miami city life.  The city has a strong commitment to preserving its origins as designed in the 1920s by George Edgar Merrick, a real estate developer.  Although Merrick participated in major road developments in South Florida, he became best known as the planner and builder of the City of Coral Gables.

There are many green spaces, lots of water and the land comes with strict rules for developers to follow building designs that fit within the overall look of the city.  This has contributed to its special charm.

In the “down town” area is a strip called “Miracle Mile”.  This main road runs east-west between Douglas Road (SW 37th Avenue) and LeJune Road (SW 42nd Avenue).  Although this strip is well-known for its bridal shops which include plenty of wedding gown boutiques as well as all the accessories you can imagine for a wedding, it also features a wonderful array of restaurants.

The restaurants in Miracle Mile are impressively diverse.  Here is a list that includes most of the restaurants in the Mile.   However, this is just the ones on this road.  There are many other great restaurants featuring cuisine of many other countries within the downtown of the Gables.

  • Bon Bon Café - Bakery
  • Tarpon Bend Raw Bar & Grill - Seafood
  • Crepe Maker at Miracle Mile – Crepes
  • Pasha’s – Healthy Mediterranean
  • French Café Rendezvous - French
  • Copas y Tapas – Spanish
  • Hillstone – American
  • California Pizza Kitchen – American
  • Angelique Euro Café – European
  • Le Boudoir – French Coffee Shop
  • Benihana Japanese Steakhouse - Japanese
  • John Martin’s - Irish
  • Le Provencal Restaurant - French
  • Ortanique – Carib-Asian
  • Lotus Garden - Thai
  • Red Koi Thai & Sushi Lounge – Thai & Japanese
  • Seasons 52 – Fresh Grill & Wine Bar seasonal menu
  • Patagonia – Argentinian meat market, bakery, wine store
  • Randazzo’s Little Italy – Italian

I have lived either in this city or within a short distance from it for most of my adult life.  I have had the opportunity to visit most of these restaurants as well as the others within the Gables downtown area.  You can safely say that to survive the cost of leasing real estate in this city, any business has to be fairly good or they have to close their doors within a year.  Most of these have been there for some time.

My top 3 favorites on Miracle Mile are:

  • Seasons 52 – Fresh Grill & Wine Bar seasonal menu
  • Angelique Euro Café – European
  • Patagonia - Argentinian

Not on the Mile but within walking distance in the down-town Gables and my favorites:

  • Su-shin Izakaya – Japanese cuisine & Sushi Bar
  • Peppy’s in the Gables – Northern Italian
  • Yuga - East and Southeast Asian cuisine includes: Japan, China, Korea, Thailand and Vietnam
  • Por Fin – Spanish/Mediterranean

If you are ever in Miami, don’t leave here without visiting and dinning in the City Beautiful, you wont regret the experience.
