Writing and Editing
1. I copied my article from MS Office and now that I've pasted it to InfoBarrel the formatting is broken. Why is this happening?
MS Office and MS Word place their own HTML markup within their writing when you copy the article directly from a Word document. It is something that many web applications struggle with and is difficult to deal with.
The one solution we have found, is to paste your article in Notepad (a free application that comes with Windows) then copy the article from Notepad to InfoBarrel. This will remove all Word Markup and formatting that is causing issues.
2. I have an article posted on another site. I want to move it to InfoBarrel, is this allowed?
Provided you remove the article from any other sites where it may have been published we will accept this article. Make sure you have removed it prior to adding it to InfoBarrel otherwise it will be denied.
3. The category I want to use isn't on Infobarrel, what do I do?
We have multiple levels of categories, so you may have to dig around a bit to find the exact category, but if for some reason it doesn't exist please email us and if it is appropriate we will consider adding it.
4. How do I edit my article?
There are two ways you can edit your article.
1. Go to your article on InfoBarrel.com after logging in, and in the top right corner, underneath the search function you will see an 'edit this article' link. Click it and you will be taken to a page where you can edit your article. If you are not pre-approved your article edit will go into the approval queue for quality control purposes.
2. The other way to edit your articles is to click the 'My Content' link in the Navigation bar. Under the 'Live Content' tab, find your article and click the edit button on the left. Again, if you are not pre-approved your edit will go into the approval queue for approval.
5. Can I change the title of my article?
Yes, you can change the title of your article on the edit page of your article.
6. What image formats are supported on InfoBarrel?
GIF, JPG, and PNG are the currently supported image formats.
7. How do I insert a picture into my post?

8. How do add a signature?
The signatures are located on your "My Account" page. On your My Account page you will see a set of tabs, click the Signatures tab. This will bring up a panel where you can add, edit or delete your signatures. Once you have created and saved your signature, you can attach it to your articles on the create or edit pages.
You can also create a signature on the fly when writing an article.
9. I've deleted images out of my article, but they are still showing up in the media panel below the article. How to I fully remove them?
To delete an image, first open up the edit page of the article. Second, you need to open up an existing or new text module to edit. On the right hand side of the text module edit window that pops up you will see two tabs, one for references and one for media, with the references panel showing. Click the media tab button.
Now that the media panel is visible you will see three sub-tabs, one for media attached to the article, one for media attached to your account and one to upload new media, with the article media showing.
1. I submitted my article, why has it not gone live yet?
If you have yet to meet the pre-approval criteria, your articles will be approved by a manager. While most articles are approved within 24 hours, we are only human and sometimes things can get a bit backed up. Allow slightly longer times for approval on weekends.
2. After I post my article on InfoBarrel can I post it on my own blog or on other sites?
No, once your article is published on InfoBarrel you are not allowed to publish it elsewhere. We want all of our content to be unique to InfoBarrel and not duplicated all over the web. If you are caught posting your content elsewhere, it will be removed and you risk being banned from InfoBarrel.
1. What is pre-approved status and how do I get it?
By contributing content to InfoBarrel you don't automatically qualify to earn pre-approved status. Pre-approved status is given to individuals who exhibit excellent writing skills, who are here to contribute for the greater good and not just for self serving purposes, and people who contribute content on a variety of topics. The minimum requirement to even come on our radar for being pre-approved are the following:
10 approved articles with minimal inappropriate content.
Have been a member of InfoBarrel for at least 14 days.
User's articles must not be for the sole purpose of promoting or building links to external sites. We want people to create quality content for the benefit of Infobarrel's readers.
User's articles must be diversified and should not be based on a single subject, regurgitating similar materials.
User must demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language and have not had any or very minimal denials due to bad English.

2. Do I have to apply for pre-approved status?
No, we have a system that automatically informs us of the members who are eligible for pre-approved status. There is no need to apply as we regularly review all accounts that meet the necessary requirements.
3. I have more than 10 approved articles, why am I not pre-approved yet?
While we appreciate your contributions, we are very selective on who receives pre-approved status. If you have been consistently approved and are writing on a variety of topics, keep publishing articles. If you maintain your consistency you will eventually become pre-approved once you've demonstrated your trustworthiness
2. Did I enter my Google Adsense account information correctly?
All Google Adsense ID's are manually reviewed to ensure they are put in correctly. If you have created a URL channel and are still not seeing impressions please contact us.
3. I cannot see InfoBarrel.com within my Google Adsense account. What is going on?
Unless you have setup a URL channel within your Google Adsense account, you will be unable to determine if your Adsense traffic is coming from InfoBarrel or another site. Visit this help page for exact instruction on setting up a Google Adsense URL Channel
4. My ads aren't relevant to my content. Why is this?
This could be for one of two reasons. One, Google may not have properly crawled your entire article yet and therefore doesn't have the proper data to build relevant ad blocks. Please allow 24-48 hours for Google to completely crawl your article. Two, there may not be any ads in Google's system that fit with your article so Google has chosen ads that fit with what it thinks InfoBarrel is about.
5. Is it possible to use Google Analytics with InfoBarrel?
Yes, once you have 10 articles published on InfoBarrel the option to add Google Analytics will be enabled. Once enabled, you will see an option to add it under the Advertising Profile tab on your 'My Account' page.
1. How do I refer people to InfoBarrel to get referral revenue?
You can find your affiliate link on the My Account page under the Referrals tab. Your link is formatted like 'http://www.infobarrel.com/signup.php?ref_id=#'. This is the link that you can give to your friends or post on your blog that will give you credit when your friends signup after clicking the link.
2. How do I find out if I have successfully referred anybody?
Once you are logged in, go to your 'My Account' page, under the Referrals tab you will see a list of all the members that you have referred to the site.

Some email providers initially put InfoBarrel emails into the spam folder or block them all together. Check your spam folder or contact your email provider to see if they have blocked InfoBarrel.com
If you still can't find the email, send us an email through the contact us form and we will manually verify it.

3. I've uploaded an avatar, but my image isn't changing. Why is this?
Browsers cache the images downloaded on any page so that if they are required to download them again, the image is already on your computer. Sometimes when you upload a new avatar, the browser doesn't refresh the cached image stored on your computer. To force your browser to reload all the page and all the images (including your new avatar), you need to do what is called a hard refresh. This is done by pressing CTRL-F5 in your browser window when you are on the page you want to reload.
Hi, I'm new here. I was just wondering: How long does the Referrer Link last? I mean does it last for a certain amount of time or is it just valid when someone signs up right after clicking on the link?
Just asking, as this will help me decide the best way to introduce my Referrer Link.
It would be great if the Link kept a cookie in place for that person for a certain amount of time: say a month. Because people often don't sign up in their first visit to the site.
Currently the referrer link works only during the time they are first on the site from your link. We will be changing that so that it lasts for a longer period, most likely a month or so, shorty. So stay tuned to the blog for updates.
The signature is a way for you to include a mini bio about yourself or a couple of links to a related or unrelated site or product on your article page. You can create new signatures on your My Account page.
I posted an article and after it was approved it realized that I didn't put it into a catagory and then went back and did that but its still not showing there. Will it and is there anything else I should do to get it to the right place??
Unless you are preapproved, every time that you submit changes to an article it goes into the queue to be approved. So the change will be applies as soon as it is approved from the queue.
Once we've published our articles, is it safe to delete the previous drafts? (I searched and couldn't find that question addressed.)

To delete a photo you've added goto the edit page of your article and on the top right of the images in the media box you should see a red x. To delete your images, just click the x.
As for getting paid, your articles have two add companies that your get a 75% share from, Google Adsense and Chitika. To make sure you get paid from your ads you need to sign up for both of these companies and then add your published IDs to your account here at Infobarrel.

How do you know which links are self-serving? I have just written my first article and I have a number of links - but only one is self-serving, however whoever reads the article may not be able to tell that.
We check where links that are put in articles are pointed to. Self serving links are links to sites that aren't reference sites (eg Wikipedia and government sites). Other sites are usually flagged as self-serving, as we don't know what the motivation of the site is.

Oh dear - I submitted an article 2 days ago and of my links - one was to Collegeboard.com, so that should be OK, but one was to a free online vocab program and 2 were to math and writing resources I recommend, but I am not an affiliate or anything - should I remove those? I was just trying to be helpful by putting them in, but obviously the reader could google them to find the info.
I still haven't gotten one single AdSense impression form anything that I've written for the site. Not one. I've sent three emails and so far there has been no response. I hate to cry scam, but I've done everything that I was supposed to do and the promised AdSense views have not occurred.
I had a similar problem, but found the reason.
When adding my AdSense ID to InfoBarrel, I only added the number portion of the ID, I forgot (oops) to add the prefix "pub-" in front of the ID.
Another tool I use to track impressions is URL Tracking feature in AdSense.

I do my writing on onenote couldnt copy & paste. Followed the advice in the FAQ's. So i tried it with notepad as instructed. Still it did not paste. What should i do now? I don't like to type into the content box directly because i like to check my articles for typo's etc before publishing.
If you are able to copy and paste from onenote into notepad, I can't think of a reason why you could not copy and paste into our writer. Perhaps try a different browser. If you are still having troubles, send us an email with the Contact Us form and we'll see if we can figure this out.
How do I get Analytics to work? I created a www.infobarrel.com profile in my account and copied the UA number here but Google says that the tracking code is not installed so I don't see any stats? Appreciate some help, please!
We make sure to verify any analytics ID that gets submitted to us so that you don't run into any issues with it. Yours has been verified now and you should start to see stats on your analytics account soon.
Hi, I submitted a comment (question) to a person who had an article I was interested in. How do I know if the person who wrote the article will get the question? Do I just hope that he looks at his article every now and then and sees me comment? There were no other comments on it except mine and his article was written, oops, I forgot month, but in 2009. To find out what your articles are making, you need to log into your adsense, chitika and amazon accounts and run the reports. I think at this time you can only break down your individual article earning on adsense. To do this, you need to create URL channels in adsense for each of your articles.
If you want to track each individual article's progress then article specific URLs need to be used. If you just want to track your stats for the site, then an Infobarrel.com URL channel is fine.
I would recommend doing both. This way you can quickly see how they are all doing and you can explore deeper if you feel you want to.
You can reapply to Adsense. If you didn't already, try using the http://www.infobarrel.com URL as your site. This should get you in.
Sometimes your application may be handled by a Google tech that doesn't know what or how Infobarrel works and may have denied it.
How would we be able to get the 75% share from google adsense and chitika? how will the money be sent to us, what are your means? is it through bank transfers, money transfers..? and how sure are we that we can receive payment? i might put effort on blogging just to later on realize that this is just a mere free blogging just literally sharing thoughts?so id rather tweet or post on my wall on FB? please enlighten me. i really dont get earning from this
How Infobarrel works is you attach your unique user IDs for your ad publishing accounts (Google Adsense, Chitika, etc) to your account here via your My Account page. By Doing it this way, we remove the middle man with regards to payments. You will be directly paid by the ad publishers, no money passes through us on its way to you.
The ad share is handled by our system. It displays your ads 75 of the time and a combination of our ads, your referrer's ads (if you have a referrer) and your manager's ads.

You do need to put your Adsense ID # in though.
Go to My Account --> Advertising Profile --> Google AdSense Publisher ID
Click change and add it there, including the 'pub' part.
As long as you add your code correctly they'll be able to rotate ads.
Hi, when I go to my advertising profile there is no option for me to enter my Google Adsense Publishing ID or my Chitika information!! The only thing available is Amazon! Do I need to submit an article first or am I doing something wrong?

Make sure to use the channel as the source of traffic info. The view area on your article shows 1 view per IP address per hour to avoid over inflated views. Bots are not counted.
You can also make a channel for the article itself. This is very helpful for newer members who can't use Analytics yet. Add a URL Channel for that article.
Also, keep writing! More articles = more views = more earnings.

Wow, lots of questions!
1. You don't have to add a signature. If you're new to all of this just focus on writing articles and start reading about search engine optimization (SEO). You can add signatures later.
2. A channel is through Adsense and tracks article views, etc., Check this article for an easy step by step to set one up - http://www.infobarrel.com/How_to_Create_an_Adsense_URL_Channel_to_Track_Article_Performance
3. Backlinking - that's a big topic. Basically, it's when you link articles together or someone likes your article and links to it. It's like a "vote" for your writing. It helps you rank in Google. That's the condensed version. Again, if you're new, just work on writing articles and the rest will fall into place.
4. RSS Feed - It's a subscription to a site or person's articles. So, if you want to get notified every time someone writes an article you click the RSS button. You can also submit your RSS feeds as part of backlinking.
I'd say the best advice is to write articles that are focused (not too broad of a topic) and read about SEO. The forum is a good place to get answers, too.

I looked at your FAQ regarding re-posting your articles in a blog or website. You clearly say it is not allowed, but why not give the obvious advice: LINK FROM YOUR BLOG/WEBSITE to INFOBARREL! This is easy and drives traffic to your infobarrel article which is better for you!
It seems i have to resubmit for publication any-time i need to edit, say for example, add a picture or an internal link. Then i have to wait for sometime for approval, before it's live again.
Is this how its supposed to be?
I find it a bit irritating because when i write a new article and want to interlink it to an older one, i have to await approval again.
you can always edit your article to fix errors or add and delete content. You to My Articles and "Edit" the article off your article list. Once in the article you need to select edit on the text box. Good luck.

I have submitted 2 articles with no issues. But today I can't submit an article that has numbers or bullets. Yes I tried notepad and all other things I could think of - for 3 hours! I submitted an article from my web site that I had writen and it was denied, I removed the article from my site and resubmitted it with up dates to infobarrel, it was still denied because it had been previously published on my site.
I assumed that it would be acceptable if it was not published anywhere else.

I submitted another article on Rent Valuation using three words that the spellchecker marked in red as unknown.
The words were Valuer, Comparables and assess, the comment from infobarrel was that they were out of context and I needed someone with a knowledge of english to edit them.
The three words are in every day use in rental valuations and using Google they are listed and certainly in the right context, i would appreciate your advice.

This site is for information, I have had two articles denied because the words were out of context or the article needed checking by someone with an understanding of English.
The words used are in standard usage in respect of the articles subjects, there is a difference between UK English and US English, which can cause slight problems, as in my regular correspondence with the US, but even more so with the use of technical or current terminology, certainly the words and the contexts that they are used in, are correct and as a consequence an authors comment may save some time, unless of course the articles are checked by a computer, in which case I have a problem.
I can edit the article but some aspects of the points lose their impact.
I would appreciate some comments.

Query: I created a signature with a "self-serving" link in the signature box, but when my article got published (yay!), the signature and self-serving link did not appear at the bottom of the article. However, I have some questions regarding to my earning potentials in this system. My first question: Who collects the money earned from the Google AdSense ads on my article before I've got my Google AdSense Publisher ID? -- I've found that my article had been published with Google AdSense ads before I got my Google's Publisher's ID; so in a very simply logic, if there were earnings for the clicks happening during this period, who collected the earnings from Google AdSense ads? My second question: On my article, there are Infolinks ads; but I don't have the relevant advertising profile for this advertiser specifically; so who collects this part of earnings? At last but not least, with Google AdSense URL Channels function, there are only 500 ones available. Does this mean that I can only publish 500 articles on Infobarrel.com that have Google's AdSense ads? Can someone pls help me on these issues? Thx a lot!

Hi I just started on infobarrel and I had two reviews denied saying:
'Article either uses English awkwardly or has excessive grammatical issues. Proof read your article or get a friend to look over it before resubmitting.'
The awkward English is Japanese names the spell check in the edit box kept saying they were missed spelled. Also I had someone check the spelling and they fixed the problems.
Do you not want reviews on manga dealing with gay story lines?
I just applyed for chitika and it asked for my website and it was required i dont have a website but make articles on infobarrel so i put infobarrel. Thats how I want to make money with chitika i mean its not my website but i use it is that ok?
The points are a method of tracking achievements on the site. They are indicators of activity level as well (i.e., the more points a writer has the more active he or she is). The points are progressive and encompass a number of categories: # of articles written, # of featured articles, # of comments made, # of forum postings made, # of referrals obtained, etc.
Although they are good benchmarks of a comparative status (writer vs. writer) they are mostly just used to show progress through the ranks. I think at one time the points were used ot show the top 100 writers (not the same as the mnothly contest points, those only apply ot the ocntest itself).
I am trying to add some photos i have on Flikr to a article i wrote on Infobarrel. The image adding interface on Infobarrel only works with URLS and Flikr doesnt seem to be letting me do it. I know that Flikr protects my photos from this sort of thing happening but i figured i could do something since it is my account and photo's

How long does it take for Google Analytics to become enabled after adding the code? I just added mine because I realized I was past the ten article requirement, but on the Google page it says there is no tracking code yet on my IB pages...
A read is triggered by a combination of things. A) User spends sufficient time on the page to actually read the entire article b) User scrolls to the bottom of the article.
We just implemented this recently, but it is a great tool to see if the content you create is being consumed by those who land on it.
I think there is a glitch is my avatar. No matter what picture I choose or what computer I try it from, it keeps saying error. My husband even uploaded one of the same pics I was trying to upload to his avatar, and it loaded no problem. Mine just will not upload an avatar. I have no trouble getting a photo in my articles, just an avatar photo won't load . Help!
I still can't figure out how to ask to be switched to the new payment structure. I wrote in twice, and was told I had to be logged in. I am logged in. I have a link to click in an email, and it doesn't work even when I am logged in. Is there a glitch or something?
usually, i write an original article in mother language. Then, i use translator tools (alike translate(dot)google) to make the article more correct (in English) and also use grammar and spelling checker tools (alike spellcheckplus(dot)com) to make the article has best quality.
Actually, to use translator tools and grammatical tools via website, can help person (member and next member of Infobarrel) who has poor English language to make good or best article in English.

This URL is not available for signing up for AdSense. This is the error I get when trying to sign up for adsense. I used the URL http://www.infobarrel.com. I also tried it using the path that was suggested in another post. Any suggestions?
Am I understanding properly that we do not need to submit our Google Ad Sense information if we are participating in the 75% program? I just joined yesterday and I am beginning to write, I have submitted my PayPal information and my Amazon information. However I did not see a place to link my Google Ad Sense. Thank You!
You don't need a Google Adsense Account if you just joined yesterday. In the past , people had problems getting signed up with the google adsense. I came just when the change was taking place. I tried to get a google adsense account and they wouldn't approve me, so I was pretty much missing out on anything I could have gained thru google adsense. Today, I still don't have google adsense. It feels better to me that InfoBarrel is taking care of the whole thing.

One more question, if I do not own pictures to add in my articles, can I take any picture in search engine? However, we all already knew that some of these pictures subjected to the copyright issue. Any suggestion how do I take any appropriate picture to any articles.
I apologise if this has already been asked but I am curious as to how inforbarrel pay you. (i'm assuming here as i have read that I can be paid directly from IB rather than needing a google ad-sense account, please correct me if I'm mistaken). The reason i ask this is becuase my account is showing my earnings for the previous month as x amount, but lists nothing in the payments section. Good morning, my post was denied because my "Article cannot be approved because it contains more than two self serving links and/or more than 1 Amazon link or element for every 200 words." None of the links refer to my blog, so is it because some of the links are tied to Youtube vids or other sites where I hyperlinked a picture in multiple places? Should I just remove all hyperlinks? I'm just trying to figure out where I went wrong.

I also have a real problem staying on the page i pull up. Every page i pull up takes me back to the infobarrel home page. I have to keep clicking back twice to be able to stay on the page I want to be on. Why is it doing this and how do i stop it?? It has done this since day 1 of being at this site. It is very discouraging to be reading or writing and have the page jump back to the homepage.
Howdy all, just joined today and I have a few questions that I don't think were covered in the FAQ and "How does InfoBarrel work" thread, or maybe I just missed them. I did browse the comments sections, but I didn't see what I was looking for. So:
1) Is there a maximum word length for the articles? I know there is a minimum, but is there a max? A lot of the film reviews seemed to be about two to three paragraphs. I tend to have a lot to say.
2) So I set up my account and even signed up for the Amazon Associates (I had to "lie" and say that InfoBarrel was my site, since it didn't really give me any other options when inputting information). Is there anything else that has to be done (other than writing and submitting content)? I have Paypal and everything, and put the correct email address in the profile. There's nothing else, right? I know that payments used to be made via Google AdSense, any I saw a dozen people being told to put this AdSense code here and paste this URL there and so on. Do I have to do anything like that?
3) Is there any chance that a Humor section will be added on (or is there a Humor section that I somehow missed)? A lot of what I write is satire, and I would love to be able to post them. Even my serious/education articles read like they came off of Cracked.com.

4) Reading through a lot of the comments and FAQs and everything, I came away with the impression that only two ads are allowed per article (I think. Some of what I read used complicated 21st century tech words like "backlinking" and "Internet" that I don't understand (I actually don't know what backlinking is)). But looking at some of the articles, I see that they have way more than two. Was this an old policy, or do you have to earn the right to have more than two ads? Do the Amazon things count as one of the ads? Is the writer responsible for putting in the ads, or does the site do it automatically when you submit your content (from what I understand, it seems to be the latter)?

Hi, when I go to my advertising profile there is no option for me to enter my Google Adsense Publishing ID or my Chitika information!! The only thing available is Amazon! Do I need to submit an article first or am I doing something wrong? Also can I use my personal adsense ID?

Hi, I wrote an article that, according to MS Word, is 614 words. I submitted it and it was denied stating that it was "less than the required 325 words". It's almost double that! How do I know how many words to REALLY write for approval? Thanks in advance!
Is there a requirement to publish at least once every month or every three months? I already have over 159 articles on IB but have not published anything in the past 3 months. I see that I've had "$0" earnings over the past month and it appears that I'm getting an equal "zero" traffic. I've tried to find an IB rule/TOU about this issue but still haven't found anything. Any help on the rules that might explain why my 159 articles have no earnings and no traffic? Thanks.
Nope, unfortunately IB traffic is down and so are earnings for a lot of members. I think the earnings/views are supposed to show up under the Account tab, but I don't see anything on mine either although apparently I earned $1.55 last month. You might try setting up an Adsense URL channel for InfoBarrel even though that's not quite as effective as it was in the past. I think we can still set those up. I did mine a couple years ago so it's still there. Good luck!
Scratch that. I guess they've changed Adsense with the Tier 1 & 2. I just realized I really have no clue how IB is run now, why earnings and views don't show up, although I do know we're getting views because of the Analytics channel.

How do I delete my account? I'm done submitting quality articles that are denied for "poor quality" while virtual advertisements for makeup companies are constantly approved. The last article that IB reject has already earned me $3.36 on another site.
I have submitted an article for approval but I have no idea what the status is as it does not appear under denied articles, but nor does it appear under published. I have sent 2 email to the helpdesk with zero response to date. Can anyone help?
