Information on Rolls Royce

Rolls Royce, are the top of the line cars. These cars are the most expensive cars in the world.

 

History

The first Rolls Royce  was built in Britain in 1904.Henry Royce was a British electrical equipment manufacturer who built the  Royce car. Henry had a love for automobiles and in 1904 working in a small When Henry invented the car he caught the attention of Charles Rolls, the son of a wealthy baron, Charles owned a car dealership in London. The two men decided to work together. Frederick made the cars and Charles sold them. The Rolls Royce was an instant success. The car was Renown for reliability and quality. The success was short lived for Charles though, in 1910, a plane carrying Charles crashed and killed him. During both world wars, the Rolls Royce Silver Ghost was customized to fit the needs of the military. This further increased the success of the company. In 1931 Rolls-Royce acquired the much smaller rival car maker Bentley. The company was struggling financially due to the impact of the great recession and seeing an opertunity Rolls Royce bought the company out. In 1971 Rolls Royce was nationalized by the british government. Rolls Royce success did not last forever though. The company was nationalized in 1973. Rolls had 2 divisions the automotive division and the aircraft division. These two divisions were separated and Rolls-Royce Moters was sold to Vickers. Thia change hampered research in the company and created even more financial difficulties.In 1987 the government of Margaret Thatcher allowed the company to be privatised.

Rolls Royce immediately started growing and in 1988 they acquired Northern Engineering Industries, a company in the electrical generation and power management industry located in North East England. Furthermore in 1990 BMW established a joint venture with ROlls Royce and together the company's produced a range of airplane engines such as the BR700. in 2000 BMW abrogated the joint venture and Rolls Royce renamed the company Rolls-Royce Deutschland.

   In 1994 Rolls Royce was expanding again, by acquiring Allison Engine Company  for 525 million dollars. THis deal gave Rolls A firm standing in the aircraft industry. In 1999 Rolls Spent a wopping 1.063 billion Pounds on acquisitions. The company bought Cooper Energy Services,Kamewa,Brown Brothers,Ulstein and Vickers plc.

 

Rolls-Royce has established a leading position in the corporate and regional airline sector through the development of the Tay engine, the Allison acquisition and the consolidation of the BMW Rolls-Royce joint venture. In 1999 BMW Rolls-Royce was renamed Rolls-Royce Deutschland and became a 100% owned subsidiary of Rolls-Royce plc.

 

21st century

On 6 April 2004, Boeing announced that it had selected Rolls-Royce to power it's 787. On June 13th 2004, Rolls Royce was given the contract from the Ministry of Defence in Britain to supply engines for their transport aircrafts. This contract was worth 110 million pounds. Rolls Royce further engrossed themselves in the aircraft industry when they secured over 1 billion dollars worth of orders in the 2005 Paris Air Show.  Over 70% of those orders came from Air China. Further more in the 2007 Paris Air Show, Rolls signed a huge contract with Qatar Airways worth 5.6 billion dollars. With these and more contracts, Rolls diversified themselves into more industrys.

By November 2007 Rolls Announced plans to build their first Aero Engine Facility in Singapore. With contracts already with many Asian country's and many more country's in the middle east, the move put Rolls in a great position, capitalizing on the astounding growth in Asia and the Middle East. The Asian plant cost over 560 million dollars, and in 2012 had around 1600 employees. The plant focuses on the Assembly and testing of large engines. The Trent 1,000, an engine that Rolls Makes, would take only 14 days to manufacture verses the 20 days it would take in the U.K.

 In march of 2011, Rolls announced a 4.2 billion dollar public offer to buy Tognum AG. The deal would cause Rolls Royce to have a 50:50 joint venture with the company. Today under the control of BMW, Rolls Royce has evolved into a magnificent company,constantly adapting to change. Constantly acquiring company's and contracts, Rolls Royce which started out producing cars has now turned in a huge, manufacturer of quality products.

Today under the control of BMW, Rolls Royce has evolved into a magnificent company,constantly adapting to change. Constantly acquiring company's and contracts, Rolls Royce which started out producing cars has now turned in a huge, manufacturer of quality products. The Rolls Royce car brand has forever been ensconced into the luxury car industry, and the Rolls Royce engines will forever be respected in the airplane industry!
