Ingrown hair treatment
Ingrown hairs can be quite painful and most will require an ingrown hair treatment of some kind. An ingrown hair can be caused by shaving or other method of hair removal. The condition commonly affects people with curly hair a lot more than those with straight hair. The medical term is pseudofolliculitis barbae although it is more commonly known as "razor bumps".
Generally what has started to happen is that the hair, which is normally be either broken off or shades to a point, is starting to push its way out through the skin instead of coming out in the normal fashion through the hair follicle. Ingrown hairs commonly they make you their appearance on areas of the body that are shaved regularly. Ingrown hairs treatment is needed because if an ingrown hair is left alone they can sometimes be the cause of infections. Fortunately ingrown hair treatment is easy.
Identifying that you have an ingrown hair is the first thing that you should do. An ingrown facial hair can be quite unsightly. Just because you have a bump on your skin does not mean that you have an ingrown hair. An ingrown hair can actually look like a small pimple and can contain pus just like a pimple. Have a look at the area through a magnifying glass and see if you can spot the ingrown hair beneath the skin. If you can see it, it's simple enough procedure to be able to draw the hair out.
Applying a warm damp cloth to the area around the inflamed area is one of the easiest ingrown hair treatments. The warm damp cloth will soften the hair beneath the skin and the surrounding skin which should then bring ingrown hair close to the surface. You should keep applying this warm damp cloth to your face for 10 to 15 minutes by which stage you should be able to see the ingrown hair beneath the skin. If there is no sign of the ingrown hair this stage then you should be looking at an alternative explanation.
The next step of the ingrown hair treatment is to see if you can manipulate the ingrown hair with a pair of tweezers until it pops out to skin. Some of us are not really good at using tweezers, especially if we have to use them in conjunction with a mirror, so you would be better off asking somebody else to help you with this. You should use a pair of tweezers that have points at the end of them because it will be much easier to manipulate the ingrown hair. In any case, be careful not to damage the surrounding skin.
If you are not getting much satisfaction with your homemade ingrown hair treatment, you should consider visiting your physician. You can also buy ingrown hair treatments over the Internet or at your local drugstore. If the problem persists you should consider laser ingrown hair treatment or chemical ingrown hair treatments. A dermatologist will be able to give you advice on laser hair removal for ingrown hair.
