Insect Repellent Clothing Treatment


Another option is to buy insect clothing treatments which can be used to treat your own clothes and make them mosquito proof. Such clothing treatments typically come with ingredients like Permethrin that is effective at killing mosquitoes and ticks thus preventing them from having a chance at biting you. The Nomad Bugproof clothing treatment is a pump spray that contains Permethrin. The Sawyer Permethrin clothing insect repellent is largely odorless and remains in the clothing, so it doesn't get onto your skin. It is far more effective than DEET, which is a popular and effective insect repellent, since DEET can damage clothing (such as spandex) and can dissolve certain materials such as plastics and vinyl.

On the other hand, the substance Permethrin is safe to use. According to the company that manufactures it, permethrin can retain its potency in the garments for up to 80 washes, and that is also the expected lifespan for most clothes.
