Install Shower Grab Bars For Safety

By | 2 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

You always look to protect your family. You make your home as safe and secured as possible. Its tough to stop all household accidents, but there are steps you can take to help prevent accidental injuries in your home. The leading place where people get hurt in their home is the bathroom.

You can see why. Tubs and showers are wet so that increases the chance of slipping and falling. And when you do slip and fall in the bathroom, there is no cushioning of your fall. There is no carpet or anything soft to fall on. You are going to be landing on a hard tile floor or maybe hitting your head on the toilet or sink.

I don't mean to scare you, but we are all aware it can happen and probably know someone who it has happened to.

One way to help prevent bathroom falls is to use and install shower grab bars.

Shower grab bars are not just for the elderly. How many times have you or a family member lost their footing in the bath? You flail around hoping to grab on to something to break your fall. Some people try to use the towel bar for support, but those are made to support a towel, not an adult.

What types of grab bars is available?

There are basically 2 types of shower or bath grab bars. The first are the types that are removable. These grab bars come with suction cups you use to stick to the bathroom wall. Just position them where you want them, click or flip the button and the cups will stick to the wall. In order for it to work properly, the tile or wall should be clean and free of soap film and grime. The entire suction cup needs to be on the tile. You can't have a grout seam running under it or it won't stick. The tile or wall must also be flat and not porous.

These grab bars should only be used for balance and not for supporting your weight.

The other kind of grab bar is ones that are directly screwed into the wall. These are the most secure type since they will be anchored to the studs. You cannot use drywall molly's on these bars. That type of wall anchor will not support your weight and can be pulled out of the wall.

If you are looking to increase the safety in your bathroom for your children, then you should look into handicap shower grab bars.

My sister actually almost fell in the shower last week and we were looking for something to put in there other than a rubber mat to ensure that it would never happen again...this is the perfect solution...excellent article!

Thanks! We had a friend who needed shower grab bars and she feels much more confident in the shower now since she installed them.
