Installation Instructions For A GPS Vehicle Tracking System
Have you seen some of the new GPS vehicle tracking system installations? Talk about slick! Well, you probably thought that you would need to own several oil wells before every having one of those. That is so not the case anymore. The prices of these units are toppling so fast. However, if you don't own a car with an in-dash vehicle tracking system using GPS you can install it yourself. Believe it! You can do it.
If you have a monitor-based system, well stop reading right now and call a certified GPS vehicle tracking installation shop. Those systems are way too hard for the average 'I can do it this weekend' kind of technician. However, if you have a simpler model like a Garmin nuvi 1450 or an Eclipse AVN4430 and know which end of a soldering iron to hold most of the time, you should be able to follow these installation instructions and be trekking throughout most of the known world easily.
Simple GPS vehicle tracking system installation instructions are as follows:
- Go to your tool box and pick up a drill, screwdriver bit, screwdriver, wire cutters or strippers, a crimping tool, a soldering iron and solder.
- Before you go a step further, open the box and take out the installation instruction that come from the factory and READ THEM COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU START THE INSTALLATION!
- Locate a solidly braced surface under the dash and mount the CPU there.
- Now comes the interesting part. Install the CD player. If you need more info, check out the article how to install an in dash car dvd player and you will be able to take care of this step easily.
- Connect a cable between the CPU and the CD player. You will find ports or terminals for the plug-in on both units.
- Install the GPS antenna in the area of the dashboard nearest the windshield and preferably in the corner of the dash. This is very important, so be careful where you put it.
- Connect the GPS antenna cable to the CPU in the designated terminal.
- Mount the unit's microphone on the rearview mirror bracket up near the ceiling of the car.
- Connect the microphone's cable to the CPU in the proper terminal.
- Go to the manufacturer's instructions and follow the programming steps explicitly as you program your unit.
