Instructions on How to Change Oil

By Edited Aug 31, 2015 4 4

If you are looking for instructions on how to change oil, look no further. We all have to change our oil in our vehicles once in awhile to keep the vehicles running properly. You may find yourself in a situation where you do not always have everything that you need to change the oil in your car. Sure you went out and bought the oil, but what about the an oil filter wrench? You will not have to run out and go buy another item to change the oil in your car if you do not have an oil filter wrench. In the instructions on how to change oil below you will find that you can use the belt off your waist as a substitute to the oil filter wrench.

Things You Will Need

The belt you are wearing or another waist belt

A large bucket

Oil filter

Funnel or a thick piece of paper

Step 1

The first step in the instructions on how to change oil is to check your oil to see if it is black. If the oil is black then it probably should be changed as soon as possible. You may need about 4 to 5 quarts of oil. Check your manual to see how much oil you need to insure that you purchase enough oil for your vehicle.

Step 2

The second step in the instructions on how to change oil is, get a large bucket that will fit under your vehicle. Unscrew the drain plug and make sure that it is under the motor and not under the transmission.

Step 3

The third step in the instructions on how to change oil is, replace the oil filter. After all if the oil is out you will need to replace the oil filter. If you are like me then you do not have an oil filter wrench. This is where the belt comes in. Put the belt around the oil filter and pull it as tight as it goes as if you were tightening it on your waist. If you do this right, the oil filter should come right off. Replace the filter with new one and put the drain plug back in. If you do not have a funnel you can use a thick piece of paper. Add the needed amount of oil and continue checking it as you go, so that you do not overfill.

Tips & Warnings

If you are using a piece of paper instead of the funnel to change your oil, use a thick piece of paper. You will need to roll the piece of paper starting at the corner, to create a funnel effect. The top of the rolled piece of thick paper should be large, and the bottom of the piece of thick paper should be small, so you have created the shape of a funnel with your piece of paper.

This is very messy, so you will want to wear old clothes, or an apron.
