Here are some really interesting facts about mammals. I hope you will enjoy them.

Bats are the only mammals that can fly.

Mammals probably appeared on Earth about 200 million years ago.

Bats sleep hanging upside down.

A bat named "American fishing bat" uses ecolocation to find fish and feed on them.

Elephants fondle and examine the tusks and bones of the dead elephants.

All mammals posses a diaphragm.

Bats rest during the day time.

Elephants are caring for other members of their families. They have been observed to take care of weak or injured members and appear to grieve over a dead companion.

All mammals are warm blooded.

Whales "migrate" further than any other animal.

The dog was one of the first animals domesticated by humans.

Koalas feed mainly at night and can eat about 5 kilograms of leaves at a time. The Koala eats by putting the leaves in his mouth at an angle and then chewing with his molars.

Foals are able to stand up within one hour of being born.

Having such huge ears does not help an elephant and their hearing is poor.

There are two kinds of whales, the baleen and the toothed whale.

Squirrels can normally live up to 12 years.

A commonly known fact is that humans belong to the class mammals.

Dogs' only sweat glands are between their paw pads.

African elephants have bigger ears than the Asian elephants and use them to ventilate the heat in their body.

Foals are mostly born at night.

Elephants normally walk at a speed of 4 mph.

On the average 15 people die of dog bites in the US every year.

There are more than 350 breeds of ponies and horses.

A dog can exert a pressure of 150 - 200 pounds through its mouth.
