Interior Design Tips for the Fall

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

When the bright months of spring and summer fade, and the leaves begin to change color, it's time to give your home's interior décor a seasonal makeover to mark the coming of fall and the year's big holiday season. Fall is a time to add warmth and spice to your rooms' designs. And whether it's carved pumpkins or new pillow casings, you'll find that it is the small details that are going to make your home's interior décor feel truly seasonal. Here are a just a few design ideas to get you started.

The importance of smell
Scents are just as much a part of interior home décor as are color schemes and furniture arrangement. Scents are crucial in creating mood, and interior decorating is essentially about creating mood. Meaning, giving a room a precise attitude and feel. For the fall, focus on smells that reflect the warmth and earthiness of the season. Cinnamon scented candles and chrysanthemums as well as other kinds of seasonal flowers are perfect examples.

Changing Textures
Textures are crucial to interior décor. No matter the color scheme of a room, it is texture more than anything that makes a room's interior design feel layered and rich. Fall textures should be thicker and warmer. Use fabrics that reflect the aesthetic of the fall season. Replace linen couch pillows with velvet, chenille and other warmer, thicker textures. Adding thick, warm slipcovers to your chairs and couches is a great way to get with the season and give old furniture new life.

Colors
When it comes to seasonal home décor, the season essentially chooses the basic color scheme for you. In the fall you need only peek outside to see that deep, rich earth colors are the colors that most reflect the essential feeling of the season: browns, reds, deep orange and gold. So replace those bright, summer blues and yellow tablecloths and pillows with fall-colored counterparts. You can also use things like fruit bowls, pumpkin decorations, and other accent pieces to add seasonal splashes of color here and there. Change of color can also be accomplished with floor coverings, keep this in mind when looking to buy rugs in San Diego.

Holiday spirit
Holiday themed decorations really help your interior décor feel seasonal. In the fall, Thanksgiving and Halloween are the two defining holidays. Lining the mantle of your fireplace with miniature pumpkins, decorating your table with cornucopias and bread baskets are just some of the ways you can get into the holiday spirit and make your interior home design reflect the essence of fall.
