Internet writing is a great way to make extra money from home. There are many sites that will pay you to write articles such as this one. However, it takes time to put together an article library that makes money. I am talking about hundreds of articles not just 10 or 20! So, if you're not ready to write and write a lot internet writing may not be for you. Oh and it will seem like you're writing for nothing money is very slow coming in, but in time it will get better if you don't quit.
There are new things to learn like search engine optimization aka SEO. If you don't understand basic SEO you won't make as much money as someone who does. The use of keywords and backlinks need to be second nature. It's best to study and learn SEO before you begin your internet writing career. Otherwise, you will find yourself going back in to edit and possibly change the entire article.
A blog is a great way to start writing online. There are no rules or guidelines, so you can have at it. It's a great way to practice SEO and get over the fear of someone reading your work. Many online writers start this way and make a little money off of Google ads while they're at it. You can also try your hand at internet marketing, however, be warned it's a tough business with much to learn.
If you're determined to learn internet marketing aka IM join the Warrior Forum. All the basic IM knowledge you could ever want is in the threads on the WF. There are also warriors who are willing to help newbies, but look out there are others who will rip your head off or scam you. In other words, be cautious. This advice is coming from someone who has been there and done that- ME!
Internet writing is partly writing for people and partly search engines this is why SEO is so important. You cannot just write for one or the other. If you write only for people they will never read it, because it will get lost in cyberspace if it isn't well SEO'd. It the article doesn't rank well in search engines, especially google, all is lost. There will be nobody reading it and no money made.
On the other hand, if you write only for search engines what sane person wants to read it. You can't just throw a bunch of keywords in an article to get on the first page of Google. Well, you can, but it too is worthless. Good internet writing is a combination of SEO rich content and a topic that keeps the reader interested or entertained and gives them the information they seek.
To begin internet writing join a couple of online writing sites and give it a go. When I first wrote this article I was writing for eHow, which was the best paying article writing site online, but that has come to an end. To add to this Google made some changes to their search engine and article writing sites aren't doing as well. Many online writers have decided to go back to creating their own niche sites in hopes that Google won't do to them what they did to article writing sites.
Writing sites such as Hubpages, Suite 101, Associated Content/Yahoo, Xomba, Demand Studios and of course this site all got hit by what is known as Panda, a term used for Google's search engine changes. There were many more paid writing sites online that lost ground or page rank and got kicked back to the 13th or higher page of Google. Nevertheless, I and other keep on writing and making changes hoping it will take a change for the better.
That said, begin your internet writing career it's free and the only thing you may lose is time.

A good basic article on internet writing. You make a lot of good points for those new to the game. It takes a LOT of time, and a LOT of artilces, and unless you get really good at it, it will always just be a small residual income, not a great deal on money. I have written a lot on this subject on my blog, which I find a fun past-time.
