Introducing the Diamond for the Ambitious and Innovative Woman

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

You’ve found yourself an original, a modern woman in every sense of the word. You’ve managed to convince her to spend her life with you and now it is time to pick out a diamond engagement ring.

But in your case, you can’t choose a ring that says she is a warm homemaker. You need a ring that says she is full of excitement. She loves to travel. There are people to see and places to go. She is always coming up with new ideas and is very motivated to see them through. She seeks to live life fully and that is what you love about her.

In your case, the Marquise cut diamond engagement ring is an excellent choice. Ambition, innovation and excitement are all character traits associated with the Marquise. Originally from the courts of King Louis XV in France, this diamond has a royal and affluent feel to it. Tradition says that it was created to mimic the smile of his mistress, Madam Marquise de Pompadour. That is, of course, how it got its name. It sparkles and dazzles while avoiding the tiny round cuts that are so prevalent these days.

The diamond’s shape is slender and elongated. It is oval shaped but with two pointed ends. Because of this, it often has the effect of making the lady’s fingers appear longer and more slender.

Marquise diamonds look good as a single solitaire diamond as well as when they are surrounded by complimentary stones.

The Marquise cut has 56 facets and looks best when it is close to a 2:1 length to width ration. Allowing for individual preferences, anything between 1.75:1 and 2.25:1 will look great. If it is cut too thin though, it can have a dark spot in the center which is known as the Bow Tie Effect.

The Marquise cut maximized the carat weight of the diamond, so what you get is a diamond that is bigger and heavier than its round counterparts. It is known as one of the fancy cuts. As with all of the fancy cuts, you should choose stones that grade higher on the color and clarity scale because it does not hide imperfections as well as the round brilliant cuts. You can be more confident in your selection though with the Marquise cut because imperfections are easier to see with the naked eye and you have less chance of being cheated.

Give your bold, independent gal a Marquise cut diamond and start the adventure of your lives.
