What is Google Chrome?
Google Chrome is a web browser similar to Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari. It is touted to be the fastest web browser as compared to other browsers. On Google's website, it is marketed as fast, efficient, secure and comes with many useful in-built features. There is also a version for Mac users, thought it can only be used for Mac OS X 10.5 or later running on Intel processor [As of Nov 2011].
Installing Google Chrome
Installing Google Chrome is fairly easy. Downloading the installer takes about 3 minutes using a normal broadband connection and installing it took less than a minute. I had Google Chrome set up within 5 minutes. It can be be configured to search from your favourite search engine. Currently, there are 3 options provided: Google, Yahoo and Bing. I selected Google as my default search engine.
A test of loading the websites
I performed a simple test by loading some websites using different web browsers. Google Chrome proves to be slightly faster, though only by a slight margin.
Other features in Google Chrome
Google Chrome also boasts of interesting features such as:
Tabs and Stability
If you have an individual tab that freezes or crashes, it will not affect your other webs. On my other web browser, I have to close the whole application and restart again.
Apps can be installed and accessed easily via the Apps section.
Syncing across multiple computers
Bookmarks, extensions, apps, theme and browser preferences can be saved to your Google account so you can have the same browsing experience even when you are surfing on another computer. Pretty cool right?
You can download the latest version of Google Chrome from Google if you are interested. If you surf the internet regularly like me, you may want to give it a try and see if you like it. Happy surfing!
