Is It Possible To Consume A Vegetarian Atkins Diet Easily?

By | Apr 5, 2010 | 0 Comments | Rating: 0

Most people that attempt to follow a vegetarian Atkins diet find the going tough. Obviously, this is because they find that the Atkins diet lays so much emphasis on eating bacon and steaks and saturated fats (derived from animals) and this is not what a vegetarian wants to know or follow. For a committed vegan that wishes to follow the Atkins vegetarian diet things are going to be harder than they bargained for.

The vegetarian Atkins diet is devilish because vegetarians will want to consume higher quantities of carbohydrates than non vegetarians and finding the right source for such carbohydrates is not easy. Even so, both the vegan and the non vegan will benefit from an Atkins diet which recommends not eating processed foods, white flour and sugars. By eschewing these foods you can lower your calorie intake dramatically and furthermore you must also abstain from alcohol and caffeine, at least in the preliminary stages of the diet.

By following the Atkins diet for vegetarians you will find that acquiring proteins from tofu, eggs and cheese may be good, but not the best option. True vegans will want their proteins from non animal sources and so must look to consuming more of tempeh and seitan that provide not only the right kind of proteins but which are tasty at the same time.

A good vegetarian Atkins diet requires that you do not inadvertently consume more carbohydrates than is necessary. This you can do quite easily by eating more seeds and nuts. In the beginning stages of this diet, you should eat carbohydrates and whole grains that together provide your body with necessary nutrition.

Later, you can switch to consuming convenience foods which are available at supermarkets and which are made with the sole intention of helping vegetarians consume fewer carbohydrates while at the same time getting sufficient proteins as well.

Following the vegetarian Atkins diet is not difficult if you first research it and also get advice from a dietician who will show you what you can and cannot eat. For those with heart disease problems or blood pressure problems, it is important to be extra careful about consuming a diet of high protein content and low carbohydrates.

You can say that as long as you exercise great care about the foods ingested and as long as these foods meet your requirements, both physiologically and physically, a vegetarian Atkins diet, though difficult to follow, will benefit you significantly.
