There are a lot of people out there who need to lose some weight. Many of these people are eager to find a quick weight loss solution. After all who doesn't want to lose their excess pounds quickly? The Medifast diet is becoming an increasingly popular option.
There are a few things to take into consideration with any diet or weight loss plan:
- How tough is the diet? By this, I mean how hard is it to stick with?
- How painful is it? Do you really have to suffer to lose the weight?
- How effective is it? Nobody wants to waste the time, money and effort if it doesn't really work.
I'll be using those factors to evaluate the Medifast plan as it translates to quick weight loss. This is based on my personal experience, and I have tried a lot of things. I've tried everything from working out like a maniac to the Atkins diet.
Difficulty? Medifast is easy. It takes all the brainwork out of it. You don't even have to work out. Your meals are pre-planned and you don't need to count calories or any of that boring stuff. The majority of it is just drinking shakes, eating meal bars and drinking lots of water. You do have to prepare one meal a day (your lean and green meal), but even if you're really lazy, that's not too much to ask.
If you are serious about quick weight loss, you do have to eat on a regular basis. For the first few days, this won't be a problem at all, but after you get into the groove, you won't have the appetite you once did. If you don't set a regular schedule and eat on a regular basis, the program won't be as effective. You also have to follow the specifications when it comes to the daily "Lean and Green" meal.
Painful? The Medifast plan is designed to give your body the right balance of calories and nutrients so that you enter into a state called "ketosis." If you skip meals or eat foods that are off plan, your body will fall out of ketosis. The pre-packaged Medifast foods are designed with a balance of protein, fiber and carbohydrates. It will take about three days, but once you enter ketosis, your body will start burning fat rather than calories from food.
The first few days on the diet before entering ketosis - which I like to call the "medifast detox" period - are not all that fun. Depending on how much junk you've been eating, you will possibly experience headaches, nausea and a general feeling of exhaustion. The good news is that after this period of about three days, you will wake up feeling great. I can normally tell the day I enter ketosis because I have a lot of energy, my appetite is under control and I can almost "feel" the fat burning off.
Effective? This is based on my personal experience, but I have had great success with the Medifast plan and have already lost almost 50 pounds. Through becoming involved in the very active Medifast community, I've met a lot of people who have had success that makes mine pale in comparison.
The trick is - you have to stick with it. The plan is designed to work as a system and the closer you follow it, the better your results will be. The longer you stick with it, the more weight you will lose. And the results happen fast. I lost almost 20 pounds in my first month on Medifast, and I personally know other people who have lost even more.
So whether you have a lot of weight to lose or just want to slim down a little, Medifast is an excellent choice for quick weight loss.
