Is There A Natural Cure For Psoriasis Of The Scalp?

By Edited Jun 14, 2015 0 0

As I know from experience, psoriasis sucks. It can be painful and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, millions of people around the world suffer physical and emotional pain due to the disease. Psoriasis can effect the whole body, but one common problem area is the scalp. The itch can be maddening, and the flakes produced by psoriasis plaques on the head can be quite embarrassing. Many people must wonder, is there a natural cure for psoriasis of the scalp? While there is no catch-all, foolproof cure for psoriasis, there are several steps you can take to improve your condition without resorting to messy, expensive, and possibly dangerous prescription drugs and cremes.

Sunlight

First of all, plain old sun exposure can lessen the damage your skin takes from psoriasis on your body and scalp. Be sure to use sunblock, though, and properly moisturize after exposure to prevent excess drying.

Humidifiers

For most people, psoriasis is easily aggravated by dry or cold conditions. To address these difficulties, try using a mist humidifier in your bedroom. It's easy to do: simply leave it on when you sleep, and hopefully your skin will retain a little extra moisture. There are many mist humidifiers available for sale at retailers and online.

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is a natural moisturizer that is always gentle on the skin. It's great at relieving itching and cutting down on psoriasis plaque buildup on the head. Before bed, massage a liberal amount of the oil into your scalp,  and then shampoo it out in the morning. (If you have concerns about getting the greasy oil on the pillow while you sleep, cover your head with a swim cap or hair net.)  Luckily, this great and relatively cheap product can be picked up at many large grocery stores.

Vinegar Rinse

Vinegar has natural anti-inflamatory and antiseptic properties. Again, pick up some apple cider vinegar at your local grocery store. Mix equal parts vinegar and water, and rinse your scalp with the solution. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes before washing.

Dead Sea Salts

Mud from the Dead Sea, containing a unique mix of salts, has been found to be extremely helpful to some psoriasis sufferers. Many Dead Sea salt products are out there on the market, including shampoos, soaps, lotions, and oils, but if you ca

Lifestyle Adjustments

Psoriasis has dozens of possible triggers, including stress, cigarette smoking, alcohol, certain foods, and lack of sleep. Try to recognize your triggers, and adjust your lifestyle accordingly. Get enough sleep at night, exercise regularly, abstain from alcohol and smoking, and eat a balanced diet rich in fruits and vegetables. You will feel better both physically and mentally, and chances are your psoriasis symptoms will improve (perhaps only slightly, though).

As most psoriasis sufferers can tell you, there is no universal, easy cure for the disorder. However, there are several different strategies you can utilize as a natural cure for psoriasis of the scalp. Combining these methods with a healthy over-all lifestyle and a positive outlook can give some serious results in your effort to reduce the itching and plaque buildup caused by the disease. Good luck, and thanks for reading.
