YouTube Red and it's various features displayed in the image.

Today we will be looking at YouTube Red to determine whether or not you should look into signing up for it. Red is basically YouTube's attempt at an ad-free video streaming service similar to Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Hulu Plus, and others. They're also creating their own original series to drum up more potential subscribers to its service. While this does seem similar to what Netflix does it isn't. YouTube Red while doing it's own original series does offer the normal YouTube experience. But, it does enhances it with features not on normal YouTube. Whether this is good or bad it depends on your point of view.

What YouTube Red Offers

To look at some of the good things here is a short list of what YouTube Red offers and points stated on their Red page.

  • Uninterrupted Music.
  • Ad-Free & Offline Video.
  • Original Shows.
  • Originals from creators you love.
  • Better ways to watch and listen.
  • A new way to support creators.
  • See where your music takes you.
  • Works across YouTube.

Above is the list of features that YouTube Red offers over normal YouTube. Below lets tackle each point and feature one at a time to see if its worth it.

Uninterrupted Music is an interesting feature that YouTube Red offers. I just don't really see that as a reason to sign up for Red. Obviously if you're streaming music or videos non interruptions are great. It's just not really a hard selling point in my eyes and if you disagree with me let me know.

Ad-Free & Offline Video does seem to be a good reason to join YouTube Red but I only see one reason here to subscribe and that's Offline Video. Ad-Free can already be achieved on YouTube through use of ad blocking. If programs like AdBlock didn't exist than this would be probably be the biggest reason to join Red. However, Offline Video does seem to be a solid reason to join because it's nice to take videos you want to watch on the go without needing wifi or cellular data. Also this offers a safer way to download YouTube videos without the need for third party software.

Original Shows if you like different kinds of shows than this might peak your interest in signing up for Red. This also kind ties into Originals created by creators you love so it depends if you want to see unique shows from creators like PewDiePie for example.

A new way to support creators I believe this is really the only reason you would signup for the ad-free side of YouTube Red because Red offers some money to content creators for those who subscribed to Red. So, if you want to support your favorite content creators this is a good way to do it. However, you can also turn off AdBlock and watch the ads on their videos that does really help them.

So, that's really all the points I feel like I can cover because the rest already tie into features that were already listed. However, the one the feature I dislike is the ability to play videos in the background. Because this a feature that they actually took away to from people so that they would join Red. To be clear though you had to use control center on you iOS devices to play YouTube in the background while you multitask on your device. You can no longer do this with Safari, Firefox, or Google Chrome on your devices anymore unless you have Red. It's not huge deal but you can't even switch tabs on any of those browsers without the video pausing which is messed up. Imagine that happening on your PC where for example you open a new tab to lets say Facebook the video stops or you open a new window and it stops. Wouldn't the be irritating unless you had Red.  It's not a huge deal but it's rather annoying that would take feature you already had and hide it behind a $10 a month subscription. You can let me know what you guys think and if you've ever did that before let me know how you feel because you can't do it anymore.

Conclusion

I just want to conclude this article by saying you should definitely look into YouTube Red and see if it's something you're interested in. I can't fully recommend people go out and subscribe but it's definitely good for it's 30 day free trial to let you decide. I only had one major frustration and its the minor feature strip that we had before Red came out. But, there's not major thing holding telling me to say it's garbage. It's YouTube it's just a paid version of it with some slightly good features. Obviously the ability to watch videos anywhere is good and being able to watch shows you're interested in is good. There's a lot of positives with YouTube Red in the end it's really up to you.

So, Yes in my opinion YouTube Red is worth it. At least it's worth you guys signing up for its 30 day free trial to see if its something you're interested in subscribing to. I just want to thank you guys for taking the time to read my article. I hope to bring more articles out to you guys soon and thank you.
