Jackie Chan Movies List

Jackie Chan early life

Born Chan Kong-sang in Hong Kong to Chinese parents that were refugees of the Chinese Civil War.  Jackie was a very active child, always rolling around, even earnting the nickname that would translate to English as "Cannonball".  When his parents immagrated to Canberra, Australia, Jackie was enrolled in the Peking Opera School where he studied diligently, martial arts and acrobatics being his best subjects.

Many of the early Jack Chan movies only included him as an extra, not even giving him a mention in the credits.  These early films were also largely for a Chinese audience and were filmed in Cantonese or Manderin.  Even today some of Chan's movies are still filmed in Mandarin with only English sub-titles, for example 1911.

Jackie Chan's American Success

It wasn't until the 1990s that Jack Chan made the break into Hollywood and with it an American audience.  Rumble in the Bronx was his first success and Rush Hour with it's sequels cemented him into the American mind as an action star.

His high action and comedic stunts make his martial art fight scenes very entertaining to watch.  Famous for doing his own stunts, they are now choreographed by his own stunt team.

What's left to come for Jackie Chan

Jackie is begining to slow down, pointing to the many injuries he has sustained he plans to take less life threatening risks.  Jackie Chans movies list will continue to grow with additions of things like Chinese Zodiac, scheduled for release in late 2012.  Jackie's list of movies has also begun to include more dramatic action type movies than his old staple of comedic type action.  Movies like 1911 tell a dramatic story about Chinese historym, unfortunately rarely studied by American youth.

I knew Jackie Chan had made a lot of movies, but that the list is so long is very impressive and surprising.

Yeah, I think Jackie Chan's movie list is approaching 100, if it's not there already. Thanks for the comment.
