A combination of African, Amerindian, East Indian, French and Spanish recipes form the basis for many Jamaican Caribbean meals. Beans, spicy sauces, rice, fruits, vegetables, goat meat and fish are predominant in Jamaican Caribbean cooking. Pelau, commonly referred to as "Cook-Up", is a favorite Jamaican dish that combines saltfish (typically salt cod), several meats, vegetables, rice and sauces. Meats include beef, chicken and pig tail. Jamaican Caribbean restaurants operate throughout the city of Chicago, Illinois.

Jamaica Jerk serves Jamaican Caribbean meals in a tropical atmosphere. Meals are prepared from scratch with fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and high quality spices. Jamaica Jerk offers groups of up to 50 a semi-private dining area. The restaurant is handicapped accessible, non-smoking and provides free parking behind the building. They have a children's menu and give senior citizen discount. While they are closed on Monday, they open from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and open from 11:00 a.m. through 10:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They are open from noon until 8:00 p.m. and serve brunch from noon until 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Enjoy Jamaican Caribbean cooking at Calypso Café in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood. Hyde Park is located on the south side of the city. Patrons enjoy Caribbean cuisine in a bright, pastel toned island atmosphere complete with decorative toucans, palm trees, wicker lamps and island music. The restaurant is open from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and open from 11:00 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They serve brunch from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Good to Go Jamaican Cuisine and Juice Bar is one of Chicago's Jamaican Caribbean restaurants that provides catering and rents space to large parties. Restaurant patrons can choose to enjoy their favorite Jamaican Caribbean dishes in the brightly colored restaurant or get them to go. Good to Go Jamaican Cuisine and Juice Bar has a full bar; serving wine, beer and fresh tropical cocktails. All dinner entrees include rice, steamed vegetables and plantains. I've heard good things about the Jerk. Friends say it's cheap too.
