Javea Spain

Javea is situated in the south-east of Spain. It is that little triangular shape which juts out into the Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular tourist resort amongst Europeans especially, and there is a large European expatriate community. In fact the expatriate community makes up half of the population.The British make up most of the expatriate community living in the area with around 12,000 inhabitants. Next in line are the Germans and the Dutch. It said that during the summer months the population rises to well over 100,000.

Like many towns and villages in the area, Javea Spain has a rich and varied history. The area was first inhabited during prehistoric times, well over 30,000 years ago, there is great evidence of this throughout the caves on the Montgo mountain just on the outside of the town. The town has a natural deep river port which has been used to great effect by the Romans, the Phoenicians, the Visigoths, the Carthaginians, and the Moors. Throughout the history of Javea, the port has played a large part in the development of the economy of the town. This along with agriculture was the sole contributed towards any income that the area received.


There are a number of main festivals which are held in Javea every year. One of the main ones is the Moors and Christians. This has become much more popular in recent years because of the influx of tourists into the area. The Moors and Christians festival is a celebration of the Moorish conquest and the subsequent Christian Reconquista in the 13th century.

There are many popular bars and restaurants in Javea for you to enjoy. Many of these are open until the early hours of the morning just like they are up down this region. If you're into food, Javea hosts a few different food festivals including an international food Festival and a food festival in praise of the Spanish delight of tapas. It's always a great idea to try and get your accommodation in Javea. Javea accommodation will surprise you with the amount of different choices that you have available to you.

Javea is home to a couple of great architectural pieces including a couple of fantastic churches. The first church is the church of St Bartolome. This sits in the old quarter of town. The old quarter is one of three distinct areas of Javea. This is where the population had to retreat to in 14th century and because of the attacks by the marauding pirates. The old town is almost 2 km from the coast.

Another place you should visit here is the Montgo National Park. This covers about 21 1/2 km² and is situated between Javea and Denia. If you are standing at the summit, which is over 700 meters tall, on a clear day you can see the island of Ibiza. If you're coming here, should let you rent a car. Javea car hire is absolutely essential if you want to see some of this beautiful land around here. Once you have a car, you can choose between visiting the beach or the mountains, take a trip through the national park or head south into the city of Alicante. Whatever you do, make sure that you enjoy your stay on the Costa Blanca.
