Kayak Fishing Tips
When it comes to thinking of a few kayak fishing tips, the main ones that come to mind are how you are going to rig your kayak, as well as how to properly catch fish from a kayak, but the one thing that most people fail to think about is their safety. Safety is the only aspect of kayak fishing that really matters, because as long as you make it home safe at the end of the day, the trip can be considered a success. You really owe it to yourself to keep these tips in mind every time you are planning a trip on the water.
The first rule of safety on the water is wearing your life vest. You can't just purchase any old life vest either, you are going to have to make sure that it is not only Coast Guard approved, but is also designed to keep your face out of the water in the event that you become knocked unconscious. This can happen all too quickly on a fishing kayak, and if you aren't wearing your vest, you could easily end up in the water being unconscious, which is something that nobody wants to face.
As long as you are wearing your life vest, you are practicing the most important kayak fishing tip, however, there are a lot of questions about rigging that people often forget to think about. The best thing I can tell you, is that whatever you have floating around your kayak that is loose, to strap it down. Having a leash attached to everything on board will not only save your gear in the event that you flip the kayak, but will also save your wallet and sanity from having to replace all of the gear once you get back to shore.
The last kayak fishing tips I can give you, is to use a 3 foot long piece of PVC pipe. Take a bright orange metallic flag, with some silver metallic tape wrapped around the PVC pipe, and strap it into your fishing crate while you are out on open water. When you are in the vicinity of other boats in the area, the glare from the metallic tape will get the attention of other boaters and jet skiers, and will alert them to your presence. This will give them ample time to adjust, and move as far away from you as they can.

Fishing in a kayak is something I plan on doing soon in an area around the Rockies once things warm up in the spring. I know a few people who have fished from their kayak's and they said the biggest problem is keeping your balance and remembering when navigating to find fishing spots that you are in a kayak and not a small fishing boat.
