Even the most calm and relaxing lifestyle can be, at times, hectic and busy. Homeowners may find it increasingly difficult to properly care for their plants. With the right planning and research, plant care does not have to be a daunting task. Healthy plants need to be given the right amount of sunlight, water, and nutrients all year long. This can be challenging, especially when the homeowners are going on a vacation for an extended period of time.

The type of care a plant needs largely depends on which one the homeowner chooses. Most plants come with care instructions, but they can be quickly researched online as well. Some house plants flourish in the shade, while others love direct sunlight. If the plant is not placed in the right part of the house, it’s not going to stay healthy.

It is very important to choose the right types of plants for the home.  A homeowner can either choose a plant and then select the best location, or choose a plant specifically for a room in the house. Ideally, no plant should go next to anything where the plant can be knocked over, as it could disrupt the root system.

Finding the right fertilizer is important. The various nutrients found in fertilizer help plants thrive more than they would on their own. Choosing the right fertilizer is also important. Some are designed for herbs and vegetable plants, while others are intended for flowers. It’s best to take the time to read what the intended use is before making a purchase.

If the home is going to be vacant for any extended period of time, then the homeowner should find a neighbor that is able to tend to the plants. If they don’t get sufficient water, there will be no plants to come home to. The neighbor doesn’t have to spend a lot of time, but it can be advantageous to have someone come over and water the plants. If the plants will be left alone for a considerable amount of time, pruning can be of assistance as well.

There are some unusual gardening products on the market that can help with the health of plants. There are watering products that can be inserted into a potted plant. Purchasing a few of these for indoor plants can ensure they stay watered. They are simply filled with water and placed into the soil. As time goes on, the water will absorb into the soil as needed. Anyone who is forgetful of watering plants can find this to be very advantageous. Many of these watering devices have various themes as well.

It ultimately comes down to the type of plant that is in the house to maintain its health. When a homeowner is looking for more variety, he or she needs to look at different plants and flowers that will work within the home.

Some plants can be adjusted inside the home. It’s possible to buy flag pole products for indoor use. A flag pole can be a great way to keep a plant hanging by the window to get just the right amount of sunlight. When purchasing one, it is important to look for the right height. This will help the plant to be better positioned to get the optimum amount of sunlight.

If you don’t wish to use a flag pole, plants can still thrive indoors. They can be placed on window ledges, hung from the ceiling, and more. Using different things around the home to help keep plants in or out of the shade can be very effective.

Pruning the plants will also help to keep them looking healthy. It’s a natural progression that plants will die and regenerate. If a leaf is dead or dying, it should be removed to promote new growth. The more a plant is pruned to keep healthy, the better it will look. There are various tools that can be purchased to make this easier. Scissors will be fine for leaves and some of the flowers, but pruning shears are another great option. These contain a sharp enough edge to cut through thick stems, thorns and all.

House plants don’t generally need a lot of work – but they do need some. As long as the plants are getting the right amount of sunlight and sufficient water, most of the work is done. Adding some nutrients to their diet and keeping them pruned are added ways to ensure the plants stay healthy. Year round, and on vacation, plants can be healthy if the right steps are followed.
