By 0 0

Comparison Review: K40 and K45

If you would like to make some of the best coffee at home or in your office, then you really don't need to be looking any further than the Keurig leading 'Elite' coffee machines K45 & K40. However, if you are unsure as to which one is right for you (and confused about what exactly is different about the K40 and K45)? Then you have come to the right comparison guide: K40 Vs K45 -- where through a complete feature by feature breakdown analysis we will highlight both their differences and similiarites, from which you will be able to easily decide which model is best for you.

As you probably know, Keurig is the leading manufacturer of coffee and their machines are popular with discerning coffee lovers all over the world. These models utilise specialised K-Cups for brewing &  have become very popular in the last few years since it is possible to get the same high quality coffee served at Starbucks right at home. K-Cup technology was pioneered by Keurig in 1998 which makes coffee available in small plastic containers with a coffee filter inside. Therefore, you do not have to deal with the hassle of handle ground coffee or coffee pods  -- which can get pretty messy at times.

Brewing Options & Aspects

Each of them have 3 size options with a cool blue indicator light which turns on when you press the appropriate setting. You can set it to deliver 6, 8 or 10 ounces of coffee into your cup or mug (so basically a small mug of coffee, mid sized and large). Also, with regards to brew strength -- Keurig K-Cups come in over 200 flavors and you can choose which one you like from amongst the incredibly large variety that is available. While using the machine, if you choose the smallest brew size you will get the strongest coffee and the larger the amount of brew the less intense the flavor will be.

Time to Brew & Noise Level

Incredibly, the K40 and K45 offer you the perfect cup of coffee in just under a minute. Moreover, both the K40 and K45 have brewing systems with the famous Keurig Brew Technology which makes less sound compared to other coffee makers, a big advantage if you are an early riser and do not wish to disturb your family when you make your morning cup of coffee.

Build Quality & Construction

The K45 and K40 are similar in build quality – they are both sturdy and durable. Made of high-grade plastic they will last several years without undergoing much of wear and tear (if at all).

Size (Dimensions) & Weight

The K45 has a height of 17.1 inches, 13.1 inches width and a depth of 16.8 inches while the K40 has a height of 13 inches, 9.8 inches width and a depth of 13.3 inches. They differ in weight by about 3.4 pounds with the K45 weighing 15.4 pounds and the K40 a bit lighter at 12 pounds.  The K45 is larger of the two but of you would like to save space the K40 will be better with its compact size.

Display Lights & Features

There are lights to indicate each stage of the brewing process. The power light comes on when you start the machine. The auto off light turns green when you turn it on. A red light indicates heating and another red light shows that the descaling process is on. A useful feature is the “add water” light that turns on when you need to replenish water in the reservoir. Moreover, you can also save electricity by setting it to the auto power shut-off mode which switches the machine off automatically after 2 hours. You only have to do this once by activating it on the control panel and it is saved when the machine is switched off.

Capacity & Drip Tray

The water reservoir of both the K40 as well as the K45 holds 48 ounces of water which is good enough for 7 cups of coffee using the 6-ounce setting or at least 4 large mugs of coffee containing 10 ounces. Both the K45 and K40 have a removable drip tray which is useful when you want to place larger cups by taking out the tray. It is also good to have a removable drip tray so that you can clean it easily.

Difference in Accessories

Keurig offers a bonus of 12 free K-Cups and a 48 ounce water reservoir along with your purchase. The K45 comes with a water filter whereas the K40 comes without one. However, if you live in an area where you get good water you may not need to use one.

How to Brew with a Keurig

The K45 and K40 produce excellent coffee using K-Cups. Once the water is heated all you have to do is insert a K-Cup, press the power button and choose how many ounces of coffee you would like.  As said, it takes under a minute for the powerful 1500-watt motor of the K45 or the K40 to make your cup of coffee -- pretty incredible really. You can refer to their online owner's manual (below) for further details too on both the K Cup Elite Brewers [1].

Which Model is Best - Should I Buy a K45 or K40?

As you can see the K45 and K40 are almost identical except for the larger dimensions of the K45 as well as the latter coming with a water filter and the K40 without. Both can make excellent cups of coffee and if you would like to choose between the two -- but ultimately we'd advise you to just go for the one that is cheaper or one that suits your budget & your preferences most. In either case you will not miss out on any of the useful features of the machine by going for one over the other.

Have You Considered Upgrading to the K65?

Also, if you have any questions, comments or concerns regarding either the comparison overview of the Keurig K40 Vs K45 or about either the K40 or K45 coffee machines specifically then please do not hesitate to make them in the comments section that you will find just below the fold and we will be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.
