The K45 & K65 Comparison Review
Since 1998, Keurig has taken their mission of making coffee brewing simple enough for everyone to get perfect results and turned it into a single-cup brewing revolution with their line of high quality automatic coffee makers. These machines allow any person to have a gourmet cup of home-brewed coffee in less than one minute without the fuss of grinding coffee beans, changing filters, or even measuring the coffee.
The Keurig K45 and K65 are two of the most popular models available that use Keurig’s innovative k-cups. These little cups hold just the exact amount of coffee to yield a delicious cup of coffee or tea every time, and they are as easy to use as can be. Simply set a k-cup in the machine’s k-cup compartment, close the lid, and push a button for brewing to begin. Within one minute, a hot cup of coffee is born. They can also be used with no k-cup for plain hot water for tea.
Similarities Between the K45 and K65
Both the K45 and K65 use the same exact k-cups to brew coffee in less than 60 seconds, and they both work in exactly the same way. Both models are the same size on the countertop, and both come with a removable drip tray. This makes cleaning easy and also offers some extra room for setting a tall travel mug under the machine.

Another common feature is in the brew sizes. Automatic buttons allow the brewing of either a 6, 8, or 10 ounce cup with no measuring. These are the most popular sizes for most coffee drinkers. In addition, both machines employ Keurig’s Quiet Brew Technology which turns the volume down from first-generation models, and they both have an energy savings mode that can be turned on or off. When this feature is on, the machines will automatically turn off after 2 hours of inactivity.

Features of the K45
The Keurig K45 is a full quality but very basic Keurig. This model is as simple as it gets, with simple brew buttons on top to select one of the three available brew sizes. This is a fully automatic machine and not programmable, so it brews when you push the button and that’s it. There is nothing to learn and nothing to program - ever.
If you want the easiest plug-and-play single-cup Keurig, this is it. The water reservoir on the K45 holds 48 ounces at a time - or about 6-7 cups before you would need to fill it up.
Improvements in the K65
With the K65 model, Keurig added some features to give the user a bit more control. Instead of the simple push buttons on the K45, the K65 comes with a small LCD screen that is backlit with a blue light. Included on-screen is a digital clock, adjustable temperature option, and a programmable automatic on/off feature.
The K65 is also includes a slightly bigger water reservoir at 60 ounces. That will get you a couple more cups of coffee between water refills, so if your home demands a lot of brewed coffee, this may be a convenience factor worth the cost.
How To Brew with a Keurig
Whether it’s the K45 or K65, the brewing process is really the same. Simply add water to the removable water reservoir, snap it into place, pop in a k-cup of your choice, close the lid, and select the desired brewing size. In less than one minute, your coffee is ready to enjoy.
The best part about these machines is that clean up is as simple as tossing the used k-cup into the garbage. There are no messy filters to clean, no exposed coffee grounds to spill in your trash, and no coffee pot to worry about. This is total convenience.
Which Model is Best - Should I Buy a K45 or K65?
Both of these coffee makers do a superb job of making gourmet quality coffee that is the perfect temperature and amazingly consistent. Both are also a fantastic way to give family and guests an easy choice of which flavor they want to drink without wasting coffee left in a pot. Both use the same exact k-cups with over 200 flavors to choose from, and both brew in the same sizes.
The K45 is just plain simple, and anyone intimidated by an LCD screen with a few options, or who really doesn’t care about programmability, should go with this model. If you want a few more options, or want to be able to program your morning cup of coffee, the K65 is the machine for you.
Regardless of which you choose, get ready to enjoy the best home-brewed coffee you have ever had - fast, convenient, and consistently perfect every time.
