Wouldn't it be great to be able to learn some kids cakes recipes to bake a variety of cakes for your kids? Well now you can! This article will showcase some different varieties of kids cakes and the respective recipes to make them. The idea of making custom and homemade cakes for kids is more fun and exciting than simply purchasing traditional bakery cakes from local bakery stores. By following the kids cake recipes below and having a little patience and practice, I assure you that you will be able to make a kids cake to your kids' delight!

Before we get started, here are some tips or guidelines for you to follow:

  • Use royal icing rather than buttercream for piping as it can hold its shape nicely.
  • Use pre-bought fondant and special kids cake pans.
  • Kids cake toppers can really make add a sparkling flavor to a cake
  • Lastly, do not be afraid of trying anything new

I will be showcasing recipes for namely 2 types of cakes; animal cakes and themed cakes as I realize the majority of kids love these cakes more than any others and they will serve as interesting kids party cakes.

Animal Cakes

The Jungle Cake

This is just the perfect kids birthday cake with a rainforest and safari birthday party theme for a child who love animals. Start with a frosted 9-by-13 inch cake and then decorate it with some colorful candies. Next, get ready to sing "Happy Birthday" to your kid!

Ingredients: Frosted 9-by-13 inch cake, Caramel cow tail, Green fruit rollups, Green fruit streamers, Banana runts, Milk duds, Midgees tootsie rolls and Yellow hard candy.

Steps to follow:

  1. To create tree trunks: Stretch a caramel cow tail so that it becomes 11 inches long and place it on the left hand side of the cake to make up the coconut tree. Next, place two tootsie rolls from end to end on the right hand side to make up the banana tree decoration.
  2. To create the fruit and leaves: Cut the green fruit rollups into 1-by-4 inch pieces. Make the ends of the 1-by-4 inch pieces round so as to resemble banana leaves, and then press a green fruit streamer atop. Next, cut the fringes into 7 pieces to create the coconut palm. Use the remaining fruit rollups lengths to make up a bush at the foot of the coconut tree. Lastly, 'hang' a cluster of banana runts on top of the banana tree and a few milk duds 'coconuts' from the palm tree.
  3. To create the sun: Simply place a yellow hard candy at the upper right corner of the frosted cake.

Themed Cakes

The Rainbow Cake

Here is a fun and interesting cake that any birthday kid will be delighted to have. It is not only festive enough for festive occasion but it also comes in handy for a Wizard of Oz party, or even a kids party. Simply start with a frosted 9-by-13 inch cake, decorate it with a handful of colorful candies, and then get ready to sing 'Happy Birthday' to the kid.

Ingredients: Frosted 9-by-13 inch cake, Mini marshmallows and Jelly beans.

Steps to follow:

  1. To create the rainbow: Starting from the top, arrange 2 rows of red, orange, yellow, green, and blue jelly beans to simulate a rainbow across the cake. It will look best if you place the candies from end to end.
  2. To create the clouds: Just mound a bunch of mini marshmallows at the top of the rainbow.

The above 2 kids cake ideas serve perfectly as kids birthday cake recipes. I hope that you will like them!
