Ultra Exclusivity - The Lamborghini Reventon

Few cars get to be exclusive as this one, and Lamborghini’s audacious advertising strategy makes it even more desirable.

Lamborghini isn’t a company known for making economical cars, or even everyday usable sportscars; no, Lamborghini only makes exotic supercars that cause mass jaw drops wherever they go! And, by far, the Reventon has checked all the right boxes, and added some more of its own to an already lengthy checklist.

Revealed in 2007, the Lamborghini Reventon wasn’t merely about styling, or performance, or exclusivity – it was, and still is, one of the rare cars that combined all those attributes in one seriously mouth-watering and nerve-tingling package. Jet fighter styling, massive horsepower and an eye-watering price tag made sure it would be confined only to a very exclusive space; but just to make sure, Lamborghini only made 20!

The Lamborghini Reventon is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most exotic car design I have ever seen; and I think it would be safe to say, that it is one of the most unique designs the world has ever seen. The design is based on the F22 Raptor stealth fighter, and this extends to more than the body – every single detail from the vents, the tail lamps and even the digital information console on the inside carry the theme even further. The sharp edges of the body panels, the rakish wing mirrors, the glass engine cover, the carbon fiber wheels with specially designed blades for brake cooling and the rather detailed fuel-filler cap are all testimony to sheer attention to minutest of detail.

On the inside, the information display can be set to either car setting, with the traditional twin dial setup, or to air setting, which uses a vertical rev counter numbered on each side with a gear display in the center; these are only words attempting to describe it - if you look below, it’s just brilliant! Pretty much every bit of the bodywork is made from carbon-fiber, as are the seats, which are lined in alcantara to save weight. The unique matt finish on the inside and attention to detail command respect, to say the least.

A car that looks like a stealth fighter must go like a stealth fighter, and Lamborghini have ensured that the Reventon would only get the best! Borrowed from the Murcielago LP640 and tuned up specifically for the Reventon, the V12 engine makes 650 horsepower at 8000 rpm, and an equally high 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque at 6000 rpm. A 6-speed transmission, a choice of either manual or automatic, sends the power to all four wheels. This of course means some blistering performance figures are going to follow, and indeed, they are – 0-60 mph comes up in 3.3 seconds, and the Reventon goes on to a top speed of just over 221 mph (356 km/h)!

The Reventon was produced between 2009 and 2010, and only 20 units of the Coupé were made. The price was US$ 1.5 million, £840,000 in the UK. Of course, that wasn’t the end. Lamborghini then announced the Reventon Roadster in 2009, which would use the even more powerful 670 hp version of the V12 engine from their Murcielago LP670-4 Super Veloce. The Roadster too, would only have 20 units created. But to top it all, Lamborghini released an advert that stated that you have better odds of being struck by lightning, or eaten by a crocodile than being the owner of a Reventon, which had odds of 1 : 700,000,000!
