Lamps and Lighting to Enhance Your Home

If you are looking to improve the lighting in your home, there are a number of types of lamp that you should consider. In general, lighting can be classified by the places where it is used. Here are the types of lighting you should be considering for every room in your home.

Pendant Lighting – Pendant lights hang from the ceiling and cast light over the whole room although the light from the ceiling tends to be unkind to faces and cast shadows where you do not want them, such as under your eyes! Although you may not switch them on very much for these reasons you may still want a beautiful light as a center piece for your ceiling and room. Consider using a chandelier for this purpose.

Wall Lights – Wall lights tend to add a gentle wash of light to your walls and give the whole room a warm glow. More of us would probably use them if we could install them more easily. The problem is that the wiring needs to be in the right place in the wall to use a wall light. If you have the wiring already or you are in the course of remodeling and could add it to your plans you will find walls lights of many styles, both modern and traditional to add just the right finishing touch to your walls.

Table Lamps – Table lamps are great for adding a good ambiance to your room and they can be very decorative as well as functional. They are available in so many combinations of bases and lamp shades that you can always find something stunning in the right style for your room especially if you are prepared to part with a bit of cash. For traditional rooms think about using a pair of Tiffany lamps. Although these will have to be reproductions and not genuine antiques, the best replicas are as much works of art as the originals. For contemporary rooms, look for solid bases in natural materials such as wood or metal and drum lamp shades in plain shades to match your color scheme.

Floor Lamps – Floor lamps are as useful as table lamps for adding additional light to your room, even more so in some cases as you do not need a table to place them on and they can be placed behind chairs and sofas to provide more light at just the right height for reading and close work or used in corners for more general light. For a contemporary room, consider a halogen floor lamp in torchiere style which will cast light upwards if you are looking for general lighting for the room. If you require a light for reading, these often have a second light attached which you can point when you need it most. For traditional rooms, a floor lamp with traditional lamp shade and wooden base to match any other wooden furniture works well.

With so many types of lighting to choose from, you should not have any difficulty in finding just what you need to light up your home.
