Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal uses the power of the laser to give your long term hairless results. Basically what happens during the hair removal process is heat is used to damage the hair follicle which causes inflammation which in the end, causes the hair to slow down its growth.
The laser when used for removing hair, is a beam of high energy designed to target the melanin pigment in your unwanted hair. When the technician performs the laser treatment, they must be careful not to damage the pigment found in the skin. So, to avoid that, the laser is used only long enough to burn the hair but not long enough to damage the skin itself. Because of this, if a patient has darker skin, the doctor has more difficulty burning the pigment in the hair without harming the skin. For this reason, there are different types of laser hair removal systems for different thicknesses of hair or color of skin. While one system may be ill-suited for one skin tone, another system may be much better.
Because of the potential problems with laser exposure and what-not, experience does matter when choosing a hair removal specialist. If you choose a poor practitioner for your laser hair removal, you increase the chances of getting permanent skin damage or hyperpigmentation.
The cost of laser hair removal varies a lot based on the experience of the doctor performing the treatment, how many sessions are required for the long term hair free results, and the area of the body being targeted. Typically, laser hair removal takes about 3 to 5 sessions to give good results. After that, maintenance is required to help keep the hair from growing back. One treatment, while it can help thin the hair, isn't permanent and so in order to be completely hair free, one must have multiple laser hair removal treatments. Usually maintenance sessions are required once per year or sometimes even longer. Finally, the results of laser hair removal will vary from person to person, so what can be done with minimal sessions for one person could take many more treatments for another.
The cost of common areas like your underarms and face are some the least expensive areas for treatment. Typically these areas can do done in about 3 sessions with about a $150 to $200 price tag per session. Of course, once the hair is completely removed, maintenance will be spread out over time and will cost much less in the long term.
