Laser hair removal treatment is a type of cosmetic treatment where a laser is used to remove your unwanted body hair permanently. This method of hair removal has gained enormous popularity in the last decade or so. More and more people are having it done. Clinics that perform this treatment are popping out of the ground like mushrooms. Everybody has seen commercials about laser hair removal on television. Most of what you see on television are advertisements ofcourse. These only give you the success stories. But there are also cases in which the results were not satisfactory. There are even cases where the client got unwanted side effects such as blistering, burns, crusting of the skin and more.

But don't think for one second that you are subject to chance when it comes to the ultimate outcome of your laser hair removal treatment. There are things you can do to prepare yourself for the treatment in order to ensure that you will get near optimal results. It's not like you can just barge into a clinic and have the doctor aim the laser at your unwanted body hair and then walk out. It takes careful planning and consideration. The performing doctor will advise you on how to prepare before you come in for the actual treatment.

Laser Hair Removal Preparation

The thing is that the laser used in hair removal laser surgery works best on light skin. The laser's entire working is based on the fact that colored things absorb heat naturally. When the laser is aimed at hair follicles underneath the skin, the colored substance melanin absorbs the laser's heat and destroys the follicle. Any type of colored tissue will absorb heat. The laser's energy does not discriminate between a real tan and a fake tan you got from a spray can. Tattoos are another thing that may disrupt the laser's beam and absorb heat. This is the reason why tattoos may darken after you have had laser removal around it. The tattoo absorbs heat and the particles that make up your tattoo get burnt and become darker.

Any good performing doctor will give you laser hair removal preparation guidelines up front. He will probably tell you not to use any lotions or creams before the treatment. These might disrupt the laser and will have to come off before the treatment begins. He will also definitely tell you to stay away from the tanning booth or the sun for about four to six weeks prior to coming in for the actual treatment. The lighter your skin is, the less of a chance you will have of side effects, the easier the doctor's task will be, the better your results and the cheaper your total treatment cost will be. So it is advised that you heed the performing doctor's advice in order to get the most out of your laser hair removal treatment.
