Last Minute Cruise Tips You Need to Know

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 1 3

You have heard all of the hype about how a last minute cruise can save you a boat load of money. Yes, it is true. Some of the best deals happen when you do not plan in advance. With that being said, there are many things that you need to keep in mind before you go ahead and book your trip. If you do not pay close attention to these tips before you book your last minute cruise, you will end up spending more in the long run for your vacation. This is the last thing that you will want to do.
Tip One
If you want to be able to take advantage of all the great deals that are available when it comes to a last minute cruise then you are going to need to have all your paperwork in order. This does not mean that you have the tickets in hand when you walk out the door. Before you even look to see what is available to you, you need to have your passport in hand. Just about every last minute cruise is going to require you to have a passport. This is because of the many different ports of call that the ship will make. There will be some trips that will not require this, but they are few and far in between.
Tip Two
Be able to pay for the entire amount for your last minute cruise when you book it. Because of the short time period between booking your vacation and when you set sail, you will not be able to make payments. Many people think that because they have the money in their bank account that they can just use their debit card to make that large payment. This is not true. Many bank cards have a one day purchase limit and the cost of your last minute cruise will probably exceed this limit. You can call your bank and have a one time exception made to put the purchase through. This must be done before you hit the final purchase button on the site.
Tip Three
When looking at prices for your last minute cruise, remember the question of how are you going to get to the boat. Most people are not lucky enough to live within driving distance of many of the starting points for the various last minute cruise options that are available. You may have to purchase air fare to get there. Booking a flight with little notice can sometimes add up to a big price tag. You may want to see if there is a package deal that can help you to save money on this.
Tip Four
Start by looking at a 4 week block of time when you want to book your last minute cruise. There are going to be so many options available to you that it may be easy to get overwhelmed. You should be able to get some nice vacation possibilities with a 4 week window of time.
