Lawn Sweeper

By | 0 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

A lawn sweeper is a very practical tool to help keep your yard looking great. Lawn sweepers are designed to pick up loose debris left on your lawn. A lawn sweeper consists of 2 major parts, the brush housing and the hopper. The brush housing is the part that actually sweeps things off of your lawn. It operates using the motion created by moving the lawn sweeper forward. This sweeping mechanism spins a brush like cylinder that grabs the loose odds and ends from your lawn, and deposits them into the hopper, or collection container. A lawn sweeper will pick up small stones, rocks, twigs, leaves, grass clippings, bits of trash, and many other things that clutter up a nice green lawn.

Do I still need a rake?

A lawn sweeper is designed to replace the rake and leaf blower. Of course there are things that these other tools can do that the lawn sweeper cannot. You will still need a rake to get to those hard to reach places near the house or fence line. It is a much easier process to sweep the lawn than to use a rake on the entire yard. Lawn sweepers work best on even terrain. If you have an uneven yard you should check out some user reviews on the specific lawn sweeper you are looking at before making a purchase. You will also still have to bag the leaves after you have swept the lawn, which either takes 2 people (if going directly from the hopper to the trash bag), or quite a bit of coordination.

The 2 types of lawn sweepers

There are 2 basic categories of lawn sweepers, the push lawn sweeper and the tow behind lawn sweeper. The names are pretty descriptive as to how they operate. The push lawn sweeper looks very similar to a push lawn mower, and is even easier to operate because of it's light weight. The tow behind lawn sweeper attaches to a riding lawn mower or a tractor and sweeps up everything in it's path. The push lawn sweepers are much cheaper, ranging in price from about $80 to $300 or so. Tow behind lawn sweepers are more expensive ranging from about $240 to over $1000. The smaller push lawn sweeper will need it's hopper emptied more often due to it's lower volume. The tow behind lawn sweeper has a much wider sweeping path compared to the push lawn sweeper. Some of the tow behind models have a sweeping path of 45" or more while most of the push lawn sweepers have only a 26" width.

A Lawn sweeper will not make your yard work disappear, but it could make picking up the yard a whole lot easier.
