Learn How to Play the Violin

By | 1 Comments | Rating: 0 | |

Learning how to play the violin can be quite a challenge but it can also be quite a rewarding experience as well. Mastering how to play the violin for beginners will require a fair amount of time, skill and knowledge. Budding violinists will have to know how to hold the violin, how to sound the notes and how to finger the notes. You should read on if you are interested in knowing more about how to play the violin.

Holding the violin in the correct position is of significant importance. If the violinist happens to handle the instrument wrongly, then it will be quite uncomfortable to play it. The proper technique to hold the violin is as follows: The left arm should be curved underneath the body around over the neck, so that you can place your hand and fingers over the strings. The chin rest will then need to be placed between the left shoulder and the chin. Next, you must bring your right arm up in front of your face in order to pluck the strings.

Once you have mastered how to hold the violin, you can then proceed to learn how to finger the notes using the violin. Violins, unlike other musical instruments, do not have any frets and this basically means that violinists must practice and train their ears until they figure out exactly where the notes are on the fingerboard. There are four positions on the violin; the first position is furthest away from the player's face and sounds low-pitched notes. The fourth and final position produces the highest notes and is located furthest up the neck. The strings are tuned, from lowest to highest, G, D, A, E. As a budding violinist, you can choose to play open strings that basically mean you can alter the tone of the string by playing a string without pressing on it.

There are many ways for you to sound the notes once you have fingered them. One popular way is to drag the bow across the strings that one wish to play, thus creating a long and steady sound. Another way is to play pizzicato which describes the playing style of using the right hand's fingers to pluck the strings so as to create a sudden and staccato sound.

It is not enough to just learn how to play the violin. Competent violinists must also be able to play the instrument by ear. This is to make sure that they will complement well with other musicians when doing a group performance.
