Breastfeeding, although a very special bonding moment with your child, can also be a difficult stage. You want to get the best experience out of it by buying a breast pump. With so many types of them available, it can be difficult to choose the best one.

There are many things that you have to consider before purchasing breastfeeding supplies, especially a breast pump. First determine how often will you need to use the pump. Are you pumping just to get relief after a feeding, for a break, or because you are returning to work? If you will not need to use it often you can use a simple pump, which is less expensive. There are electrical pumps as well as battery operated ones. Will there be electrical outlets where you are at, if not a battery operated one, can be helpful for you.

For mothers who do not need to pump often a simple manual pump can help. These do not require electrical unit, nor batteries. This however will be time consuming, but will be less expensive as the other breast pumps out there. If you need the pump to allow someone else to feed the baby, then this would be ideal for you.

If you are ready to go back to work full time, then you will need a pump that allows you to use it quite often, and get the job done faster. An electrical breast pump can be helpful for you, however it can be a lot more expensive than a manual pump. A car charger usually is equipped with this type of pump kits.

If your work requires you to be at a place where there are no electrical outlets, then a battery operated one can be ideal for you. This type of pump is ideal for the woman on the go. Allows you to pump wherever you may be at. You can store the milk in storage bottles and can place them in the storage kit that comes with your pump.

There are also single as well as double pumps. With a single pump, you have to do one breast at a time. A double pump allows you to get milk out of both breast simultaneously. Using a double one, can allow you to get the milk into the storage bottles quite faster. You can use it even after feedings, if you still feel your breast are full.

Normally your pump kit comes with a few storage bottles for you to use. You can always purchase more bottles, if you need to. Your storage bottles should be placed in the freezer until you are ready to use them. It would be a good idea to date each bottle to know which one you placed in there first. Always give your baby the milk, in the order that you placed them in the freezer.

You always want to be prepared when you are breastfeeding. Even if you are a stay at home mother, you never know when a unforeseen event may arise and you need to be away from your son or daughter. Buying a breast pump can help you store milk, should you ever need to step away from your baby.
