Lifestyle Design

By Edited Nov 13, 2013 0 0

Lifestyle design is the concept of developing a dream lifestyle and making it happen without waiting decades until retirement. Most people slave away at a job for years, saving up a small amount of money out of each paycheck so that they can retire eventually. The problem is that by then they are old, tired, and maybe not even rich enough to do the things they always dreamed of. This life is too short to not get what you want from it. Use the concepts of lifestyle design to make your dreams happen.

Define Your Dream

What is it that you want? What would you like most to do? Be outlandish and crazy if you like. No idea is a bad idea. Let your mind go wild and write down your thoughts. Think of what you want to accomplish before dying. What would you do if you didn't have to worry about money? Would you wake up each morning and go to your job? Probably not. Would you regret it if you died tomorrow and therefore couldn't continue to be a corporate slave for another 30 years? Unlikely.

Scope out the Costs

Determine what it would cost per month to accomplish your dream. Be thorough in figuring the costs. If your dream involves long-term travel, look at the option of selling your house or moving out of your apartment. This will make your travel dreams more feasible.

Develop a Side Business

Start up a small business on the side to earn more money. Focus on sources of passive income to support your lifestyle. That way you can enjoy your lifestyle while continuing to build your financial life.

Have Courage

Have the audacity to go out and make it happen. Once you have created a plan, counted the cost, and made the money to support it, take a step into the dark. Be willing to take a risk in exchange for living your life to the fullest. Don't listen to the naysayers, especially those who are still slaving away at a soul-crushing job.
