A great dive torch is probably one of the best pieces of gear that you can have in your dive gear collection. A dive torch, also known as a diving light, can really make a big difference in the quality of your dive, since the visibility below the surface can often be much worse than you previously thought. Also, scuba diving without a good quality light source can also be considered a safety hazard since your diving buddies may not be able to see you and you might accidentally swim into something dangerous that could cut your diving excursion very short.

When it comes to dive torches, there is really no such thing as a one-size-fits-all type or brand. Dive torches come in many different configurations. Some of them are very inexpensive ($20 - $30) while others cost well over $100. And since these lights are designed for use underwater, they have to be waterproof out of necessity.

If you are like most folks, a simple, hand held dive torch is probably all that you will need. Thankfully, these units are very inexpensive (usually under $20). These dive torches usually have LED lamps for long life and lower power consumption and are typically powered by two "AAA" batteries. With these dive torches, the entire unit usually wears out long before the LED lamp needs replacing.

A great mid range dive torch is perfect for many different scuba diving excursions. Such a compact unit will retail for approximately $30 - $60 and is rated for a powerful 25 - 50 lumen. You will also want to find a dive torch that is very well made and rugged with a generous warranty. There are even some manufacturers of dive torches that offer lifetime guarantees. These are definitely the ones you want to buy, to make sure you will truly get your money's worth out of your purchase.

If you are looking for a dive torch with a little more power, a high end dive torch may be what you need. These powerhouse dive torches puts out an astonishing 400 or more lumen but only retails for $100 and up. They typically come standard with an LED lamp that will last for years as it slowly draws power from the standard batteries that powers them.

Regardless of whether you are scuba diving in murky or well- lit waters, there's a great dive torch available to meet your needs at an affordable price.
