In life, sometimes the hardest thing to do in life is to smile. Life is complicated. No one can predict what will happen so no one can prevent it. Bad things can happen at any moment. But somehow, some people still find a way to be happy despite the problems they face in their life. There are many ways to live happier but not all of them are for everyone and some are just silly. The goal is should not be to be upbeat and bubbly all the time. If that’s just the way you are then great but too many people try to be someone that they are not. If you are the quiet introvert then you can still be happy without living a lie. You also need to focus on doing what you enjoy doing or enjoying what you have to be doing. Lastly, you need to remember that to live happier is a decision not an event.

Be You

To be happy you need to be you. It’s such a simple fact but so many people overlook it. You can’t go on living your life trying to be who someone else wants you to be. What made you decide to do what you’re doing today? Are you trying to impress someone to this day by being someone you’re not? If any particular person was out of your life would you want to be living any differently? You need to focus on you. A quote often attributed to Dr. Seuss says it best, “Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” You can’t try to please everyone in life. If you want to live happier then you should probably be focusing on making only one person happy and that’s yourself. That’s not a selfish thing unless you make it one. Being happy yourself and being happy does everyone good.

Stay Busy

One of the fastest ways to lose happiness is not doing anything. A bored mind is an unhappy mind. An excited mind never has the chance to be unhappy. What is something that excites you? If you only do one this suggested in this article then find what excites you and do it. Not all the things that excite you in life will be a sustainable career but a career that lets you do what excites you in your free time can usually be sustainable. There are two main issues people have with this advice. The first is, “I don’t know what excites me.” The simple answer to this is, look for it. If you have nothing that could make you ecstatic about waking up in the morning then you should be excited about trying to find it. Think about this, everything you try gets you one step closer to finding the thing the puts butterflies in your stomach in a good way. Try sky diving or fishing or dancing or building alphabet block buildings or absolutely anything and if it doesn’t excite you, then just move on. It’s the ultimate investment in your happiness.

You're Human

You can’t be on your game all the time. There are going to be moments in your life that you can’t do exactly what you want to do or you aren’t exactly excited about waking up. Try to learn from them but understand that they are an essential part of being a human. You can become happier in an instant. It just has to be a decision. It’s not always easy but it’s always possible. It’s been proven that the very act of smiling and putting your head up makes you happy. It doesn’t make your problems go away but it allows you to face them in a better state of mind. Choosing not to be happy at certain times is acceptable though. Life has its problems. Accept that this is a decision you will not always make but at any moment it can help you live happier.
