Living Room Color Schemes and Ideas

By Edited Apr 16, 2016 0 0

Living room color schemes allow you to get a very cohesive look in your space. This is something that you can accomplish with paint, especially if you already have neutral furniture. It's a way that you can make a statement with color, which can save you a lot of money, but it can still be very interesting when you decorate with paint. You really are free to explore a lot of different design options that you would otherwise be afraid of because if they didn't work out you can really be stuck with them.

You may use wall colours for living room use that are inspired by a theme but with a different take. For instance, beach themes have always been very popular. Now they are becoming a little bit more understated. You might really want to just change up the basic blue and white color palette. You could instead go for a blue and green palette.

Blue and green can seem a little bit striking or even juvenile at first. It may remind you of a box of crayons but this doesn't have to be the case. Instead, you can really just be inspired by sea glass. You can even find faux sea glass at dollar stores. You could display this in glass vases for an instant decorative accessory. This is going to bring in a lot of softer aquas as well as paler greens. You can also go with more of a sand color to use a neutral. This is a great way to get a lot of colorful furniture in your space that's still going to relate to each other.

Most Popular Paint Colors for Living Rooms

Most people play it safe when it comes to decorating so neutrals are pretty common. You could just go with basic white walls if you're afraid of the space becoming a little bit too colorful. Then you can just get a blue or green couch. These were popular colors a few years ago so you can probably find them at thrift stores. Then you could use the opposite color on handpainted furniture. It's going to be pastel so it will still work together even though these aren't tones that you would traditionally use together.

If you go for modern paint colours for living room use then you want to combine neutral elements with pops of color. Traditionally this would be something like white, black, and red. This can seem a little bit harsh. Sometimes you can just venture into the warmer tones that still use the same kind of ideas.

Gold can be a difficult color to decorate with especially if you’re going with it for a wall color. However, if you're willing to go through a trial and error process it really does create a very sunny and cheerful feeling in your room. It can even be understated at times. However, the one disadvantage to this is that often times you really don't know exactly what to match it with. In this case it makes a lot of sense to just go with a brown color. You can just paint your furniture in this tone. You can also just go with this on your wood furniture.

At first, yellow and brown can seem a little mismatched. It’s a way to bring in a retro inspired fabric. This could just be a simple floral funky throw pillow that has white, chocolate, and yellow altogether. This is definitely going to be a color palette that's very unique.

Another option for colors to paint a living room is going to implement more of a subdued effect while using the same color idea. Taupe is very popular in design but it can seem a little bit bland at first. Just bringing in yellow furniture can really liven up the space while still keeping things pretty soothing.

When you want to go with modern living room color schemes the key is to really simplify your space. A great way to do this is with metal elements. In fact you might not even need a color scheme. You might just need your favorite material that you can carry throughout your room. You can use a steel effect on everything from lighting fixtures to your furniture.

Mirrored furniture has become very popular. This can be quite expensive, but it's also going to be a statement piece in your room and it matches any of the gray paint or fabric colors that are so popular right now. The great thing about using a lot of silver and steel is that it does help to brighten up the room while still being monochromatic. Plus, it's not going to be dreary the way a plain gray room would be. This is going to be one of your more expensive ways to decorate but it's also very gender neutral. It's even masculine enough to use in an industrial style or bachelor pad kind of space.
