Living in Manly, Sydney, Australia
Manly is located in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney
and it is, geographically, the closest beach suburb to the city center. In
order to reach it you have to take a ferry which gives it a bit of separation
from the hustle bustle of the Central Business District.
Living in Manly
is on the list of many newcomers to Sydney
due to it's proximity to the center, its beautiful beaches, and its laid back
lifestyle. It is popular with surfers due to the great surf beach, backpackers
who come from abroad to enjoy Sydney life, and with urban professionals who prefer to live by the beach. People
in Manly seem to be fit and happy and it has it's fair share of beach bunnies
and toned bodies. The commute to Manly by ferry can become a hassle at times,
but it is one small price to pay for living in such a beautiful area.
Manly's businest and most famous area is Manly Corso, a busy,
paved promenade that runs for ManlyWharf
to the beach. Nightlife in Manly caters more to people who like a quiet beer
rather than those who love the raging nightlife but there is still plenty to do
here. Live bands play at Fishos on
Friday and Saturday whereas The Stein and The Ivanhoe are better known as
sports bars. Manly Corso is packed with eating and entertainment options and it
is where you should head on a night out in Manly.
Manly comes alive in the summer with all of the city folks
streaming in to the suburb to enjoy the ocean, parks, beaches, cafes and even
fishing. It is common to see people barbequing along the beach after spending
their mornings lounging in the sun. Evenings are usually spend on the Corso to
complete a well-rounded weekend day in Manly. The options for things to do are
one of the things that make the area so attractive.
To get to Sydney's
center from Manly, the Manly ferry and Jetcat are the quickest options. While
travelling by boat makes for a beautiful commute, it is also expensive. Getting
back to Manly in the evening after the ferries stop is difficult and taxis can
run up to $90. Having to rely on expensive cabs to get around after dark can
make the suburb seem isolated but it make sup for it during the daylight hours
with its beauty.
Manly is a great choice for new arrivals to Sydney.
You will get to enjoy all of the best things the city has to offer but still be
tucked away as though you are living in a small beach town, not one of the
world's major cities.
