If you are a pregnant woman who considers herself more fashion-savvy than average, Liz Lange is the perfect brand for you. Founded by a woman with a pioneering spirit and a couple of kids of her own, the company strives to create clothing that expecting women will want to wear and, most importantly, enjoy wearing.
All of Liz Lange's designs are made with the contemporary woman in mind. At Liz Lange, the motto is "less is more" and they demonstrate that by making pieces that are versatile and can be mixed and matched to create
Liz Lange Maternity has many devoted followers, but it even caught the eye of several A-list celebrities. Actresses like Sarah Jessica Parker and Gwyneth Paltrow have shopped the trendy mommy-to-be wear, no doubt upping the trend of classy maternity wear and the popularity of Liz Lange.
Maternity clothes of years past were plagued with cheap fabric, poor construction, and childish patterns. What makes Liz Lange so popular is its drive to make maternity clothing a mom could strut down a runway in - even if she's only walking down grocery aisles.
An Entrepreneur, Mother, and Survivor
Founded in 1997, Liz Lange is headed by the president of the same name. Lange is also the Creative Director of the company and a mother of two and believes in the philosophy that, "women should look and feel beautiful during pregnancy." Lange's own credentials aren't half bad - she graduated from Brown University, worked at Vogue magazine and at a design firm in New York City with Stephen DiGeronimo. It was the latter that inspired Lange to develop her own brand of sophisticated maternity clothes. She witnessed her pregnant friends fighting to fit into DiGeronimo's non-maternity apparel and an idea struck to make maternity clothing that could stretch and be slimming.
At age 35 Liz Lange was diagnosed with cervical cancer. With treatment she won the battle against the disease and now works as an advocate for educating women on HPV with the Gynecological Cancer Foundation.
This brand of maternity wear isn't exactly for those who pinch their pennies. (For cheaper maternity clothing you can look into Motherhood Maternity as an alternative.) But if you've got some extra cash and want to be the most stylish pregnant lady on your block, Liz Lange has the perfect statement pieces for your closet. Most items cost over $50, so while it isn't very cheap, it doesn't quite break the bank, either.
However, it's important to note that Liz Lange for Target has items that are significantly lower in price. Clothing sold there stays in the $10 to $30 range.
Liz Lange Maternity can be purchased at boutiques in major cities across the country - from New York City to Houston, Texas.
If you can't make it to a physical location, you can hop online and visit fine retailers like Nordstrom and Amazon. As I already mentioned, there's even an exclusive line made for Target featuring designs and prices you can only find at the bull's-eye store. The brand is also sold at one of my personal favorite baby-gear websites: Rosenberry Rooms. In addition, you can find another line of exclusive clothing on the Home Shopping Network called Completely Me by Liz Lange, which is a collection of sportswear not specifically designed for pregnant women, but designed for every woman. Just turn on your TV or visit HSN.com to shop.
