Dutch Oven Care Tips
After use and when the pot is emptied pour some water in. Heat this up and it will loosen all food remains and make the cleaning extremely simple. It is then a quick matter of wiping with a soft cloth to get it back to perfect condition. Dry the pot and then rub a small amount of oil over the entire pot. This protects the pot and makes the next dish not stick to the insides.
You can also repeat this process jut before you cook to really make it as non stick as possible. This will certainly make life much easier for cleaning purposes and will greatly save on your labor.
If you do find food sticking slightly then you can greatly improve the non stick capability by oiling it and then placing in a low over for ten minutes or so. Allow it to then cool down naturally in the oven until it is cold. This will make the pot even moreefficient when it comes to slow cooking your next meal.
If you want to make perfect slow cooked meals then you really should get a lodge cast iron dutch oven.

If more people thought of Dutch oven's like a crockpot, then maybe they would become more popular again. I love my cast iron's! Not all are Lodge Cast, although several of mine are. I also have a wonderful Kitchen size vintage dutch oven, a griddle/grill combo, square pans and the like. One of mine even belonged to my Grandma, my best and fav. cast iron ever. I have been known to season my cast iron's on the open fire if they are in really bad condition. Then a good scrub out with either steel wool, or with course sand (when I'm camping). Nothing like cooking in cast iron to keep temps stable, and have food cooked evenly. Thanks!
